Sehwag (125) and Gambhir (63) starred in an unbeaten 201-run stand in the tie which witnessed five rain interruptions, three during Indian innings alone.
"It was a difficult chase with the rain interruptions. The way Viru and Gautam batted, it looked easy but it was never easy," Dhoni said after India's series-clinching win in Hamilton.
The India captain said conditions were not easy to bat on but the spectacular start by Sehwag and Gambhir tilted the match in India's favour.
"The wind was very strong all through. Overall, we got a good start and capitalised on it later on," Dhoni said.
Dhoni once again lauded his team for not relying on individual performances while establishing a series-clinching 3-0 lead.
Dhoni said the team no longer relied on individuals to do the job as every member ‘chips in’.
"We are not relying on individuals. For instance, we were without Sachin (Tendulkar) today but still performed well. That's the plus point that we are not relying too heavily on individuals," he said.
Man of the Match Sehwag, who gave away 500 dollars from his prize money to the local Hamilton Star Wars Cricket Club, said the tracks turned out to be more batting-friendly than he thought.
"I know the wickets here but they are flatter this time. It's easier to score now," he said.
