Chasm appear in Sena-BJP alliance over Advani's PM bid

Mumbai BJP's insistence on Shiv Sena's "unequivocal support" to L K Advani's candidature for Prime Ministership and neither party wanting to relinquish claim on the Kalyan Lok Sabha seat have become stumbling blocks in the formalisation of the saffron alliance for the elections.

"Neither BJP nor Sena wants to leave the Kalyan seat for the partner. This, despite BJP being fully aware that Sena holds sway in the constituency, which has over 16 lakh voters," said a senior Sena leader.

"There was an overwhelming sentiment at a meeting of senior Sena leaders here last night that at no cost should the Sena relinquish claim on Kalyan seat," the leader said.

"If BJP state unit president Nitin Gadkari can try to browbeat us by asking for our unconditional support to Advani's candidature, then Sena should also adopt a strong position on Kalyan seat," he said.

Gadkari had objected to a statement of Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut that Sena chief Bal Thackeray and the Marathi people wanted a Marathi (read NCP chief Sharad Pawar) as the Prime Minister.

"BJP leaders have now decided to directly ask Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray to explain his party's position on the issue of Advani's candidature," a state BJP functionary said.

Sena-BJP by sashi on 08 Mar 2009

why bjp is attaching too much importance to the Thakery family?

sena-bjp by sankar on 09 Mar 2009

BJP cares for shivsena because other than itself it is only shivsena in the whole of india which protects hindus from the onslaught of cultural invasion.

BJP - Go it alone and sit in Opposition by Aniyan on 08 Mar 2009

Dear Shri Advani, The uncomfortable reactions of NDA's allies mainly on your projection as the PM candidate, should be noted seriously, if you have a love for the party, which you set up 20 years back. You did a lot of spade work alongwith Atalji; but the situation now is entirely different, which you should not pretend to have not seen or not felt. When the people gave BJP a chance to rule the country and you being Dy.PM of the country, there was no effort to construct the Ram Temple. You can term it as a Govt. under agreed common programme; but the people voted BJP mainly for that. Now, when the election announced, you again went to the people as the PM candidate of BJP - not NDA as many of them yet to accept it - that construction of Ram Mandir is priority. The common people feel that you were fooling them and your allies are uncomfortable with your leadership. With this situation, why are you leading the party. Please handover the mantle to Narendra Modi and leave the allies.

Marathi PM by Madhavan Kutty on 08 Mar 2009

No Marathi PM or UP PM. We need a PM for the 'whole country' which can be achieved only voting for BJP.

Sivsena by Rajesh on 08 Mar 2009

Dear Mr. Thkare,,you have to understand that inthe political map you are described as a Hidutwa face. If the NDA will fail in the gen election all media will sing it as a failure of Hindutwa only. Do you want to hear it? Why cant you and your party support Advani as P.M? Or you support Sonia? You dont need to go to "Purana" for the story of father's love to his son and is consequences....please look in the story of congress veteran in Kerala ( Mr. Karunakaran) ..do you want the same postion that he is enjoying right now in Kerala in your Maharashtra for you? In fact you people are the very enemies of Bharat.

Why does BJP have hard time to communicate to hindus and Indians by Jatin Patel on 08 Mar 2009

The BJP leadership is arrogant. BJP has a hard time to communicate to hindus on hindu agenda, without Ram Janmabhoomi. How can you connect to voters? Advaniji needs to realize that it is easy to ignite passion by Rath Yatra, but hard to garnish votes election after election without any tangible progress on issue. A neta becomes all talk and no action, just like congress, ie hopelessness for indians. Jo karta hai wo bharta hai...

Let fools fight by Jas on 08 Mar 2009

Fools can stay together only for so long. People of India should reject all the idiots who bring caste and religion into public life.

Advani for PM? by Jatin Patel on 07 Mar 2009

The BJP does not want to be a national party. It never tried to be one seeking alliance and hiding behind NDA issues not to resolve the Ram janambhoomi issue after destroying Babri. This is pathetic for Hindus and the opportunistic Advaniji must be dumped for supporting Vajpayee on Lahore Yatra, Secular Jinnah, LoC as border, no response for Kargil and then no response for parliament attack etc etc. If Advani thinks hindus are his vote bank, he will wake up to new reality after elections. BJP as a party has no guts to perform as a healthy party. Rajnath Singh has not done business of people at BJP party during last five years. People are demanding change in form of good governance, more opportunities and real GDP growth that amounts to good jobs for more Indians (not like Chiddu's 8% cooked up numbers). Instead, BJP supported Congress and never demanded a military action against pakistan!! Not me, but many are questioning, Advani for PM?

corrupt advani by sunny on 07 Mar 2009

advani pm wish will never be fulfilled he truly a corrupt plotician at this age he should go to ashram and pray to god to forgive his all bad deeds

Sena BJP Aliance by R Varadarajan on 07 Mar 2009

Disppointingly, the Elections have become another area for the politicians to settle personal agenda and to encourge corruption in all forms right from the level of seat sharing in the name of alliance. I wonder whether Mahatma Gandhi would have fought so hard for freedom had he known the quality of the Politicians of future. Almost every party head wants to be a Prime Minister - there are offers and counter offers in seat sharing to clinch the deals. The possibility of getting the just and fair politician may remain an Utopian Dream

RIDICULOUS TO SPPORT A RIVAL AND ALSO WIN ELECTIONS by young.indian on 07 Mar 2009

There is no doubt on the winning of BJP in th elections and Advani becoming PM. Therefore Shiv Sena should support Advani's candidature and not Pawar who as in clear terms rejected Sena's overtures. Only BJP can be its ally. By trying to express its support to PM candidature of Pawar, Sena is making a mockery of itself. How can one support a rival and also WIN THE ELECTIONS..... IS SENA OUT OF SENSES?

Badvani for PM by Raj on 07 Mar 2009

Please let "Bad"vani become PM at least for a day. Otherwise, his unsatisfied spirit will hound us Indians!

Ek Din Ka Sultan by Sridhar on 07 Mar 2009

The old order must give way to the new. Mr. Advani should gracefully withdraw and allow the party to elect an younger person to take on the mantle. Otherwise, he will have the same fate as Mr. Moraji Desai who achieved his ambition to become PM of India but became a failed PM and had to be thrown out disgracefully

shutup Mr insane by Raj on 07 Mar 2009

You seem to be an insane person.

PM post by Robert on 07 Mar 2009

This is not the right thing to insist on the Marathi PM. Because in a country of over a billion of population no quota or priviledge to a particular state or family to hold the PM's post

Marathi PM by Shyam M on 07 Mar 2009

Shiv Sena will go to any lenght to appoint a marathi PM irrespective of the ability. Did we not see that in case of Pratibha Patil?

If we elect them, the we Hindu's will lose our respect. by Nautankee on 07 Mar 2009

Anyone, but BJP.

vote for cong for as cong has history of sacrifice for unity of India by real bharatiya on 08 Mar 2009

Mr. Nautankee, u u/stood well. T/fore, vote for cong. Cong is the party that pays respect to all religion

Unfounded! by Anil Kumar on 07 Mar 2009

Your comments are like your Name. Can you name any rhyme or reason as to why Hindus will loose respect. If you a Hindue and averse to Hindu Religion, you are free to change. All people are born Hindus, rest all are converts. BJP is a national party with Governments in so many states. People there are happy that is why they re-elected them. Even during the period, BJP was part of the Government at the centre, we made very good progress. The future of the Country lies with BJP. Mind it India is SECULAR TILL HINDUS ARE IN MAJORITY.

What?? by G Sundar on 07 Mar 2009

Not true

BJP has to make hard choice by Satindar on 07 Mar 2009

The very fact that BJP has stooped so low as to seek alliance with such groupings as Thackrey Senas shows that BJP has lost confidence in its support among Indian people. The best thing BJP can do to enlarge its voter base is to throw away Sena .

BJP has to make hard choice by sunil on 07 Mar 2009

Satindar is absolutely right. For how many years BJP going to on the tune of regional party like shivasena, who are careless about national politics . Infact congress also should end up ties with regional parties. Let regional parties do whatever they want, definately elections will happen again and again till people gives clear mandate to either BJP or Congress. Both these truly national parties should not bow down for bright future of our nation.

Yes by G Sundar on 07 Mar 2009

You have a valid point

sena-bjp tie up by richard on 07 Mar 2009

Advani gets PM post. Thakeray family will get the rule over this state and the Maharastrian youth will end up in slums throwing stones at others. A fine future for our country and state

UPA gets the credit for slums by kp on 08 Mar 2009

Youth ending up in slums is already achieved under UPA. UPA is taking credit for creating slumdogs and has purchased rights to use 'jai ho' as campaign slogan.

Sena BJP tie up by Ananth on 07 Mar 2009

So Richard, you want Sonia to get PM's post, Gandhi family to rule over this country so that we Indians are made to dance to the westerners' tune? Advaniji anyday is much better than this threatening scenario.

Very Funny by Anil Kumar on 07 Mar 2009

Mr. Richard, probably you seem to be poor in History, For a certain time when BJP lead Government was at Centre, Shiv Sena BJP were ruling Maharashtra, I do not think that any problems arose due to that. So how could you speculate some thing now. BJP is lead by people of Indian origin, not by person of some FOREIGN origin, who got married to an INDIAN

PROSPECTS ARE BRIGHT by K Sridhar on 07 Mar 2009

Even if this alliance materializes despite all these brickbats, it is not going to be a smooth one and may not work at the ground level. Prospects are quite bright for the Congress-NCP alliance to improve their tally from the present 24 seats to may be over 30 seats

YES by Mohanan on 08 Mar 2009

Yes the Congress ,NCP,alliance will surely canter home.
