Movie maker
Chairman and managing director, Mukta Arts, the man who brought us films like Ram Lakhan, Karma, Khalnayak, Saudagar and Taal, Subhash Ghai, has earned himself much deference in the ageing Indian film industry, which was evident at his wedding anniversary bash at the Hyatt Regency on Wednesday. Anybody and everybody who has worked with him came on time and stayed till the end. There was mischief, there were laughs, and no camps at this convivial do. Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan, possibly the biggest crowd pullers, behaved like colts and brought on most of the humour. Katrina Kaif and Suzanne Roshan were bemused by their antics, as were the veterans and Ghai loyalists, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff . David Dhavan, Abbas-Mustan and the boy band comprising Sohail Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Ashish Chowdhury enjoyed Ghai’s movie bloopers that were screened, in particular.
Showstopper There was little need for the three-tiered cake and the buckets of bubbly in this celebration, they lay untouched in a corner.
Smart art
One of the world’s renowned auction houses has acquired prime property in Mumbai and they intend on using it well. Last night saw Christie’s preview of Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art at the Alcove, Dhanraj Mahal. It was an elegant evening as hostess Ganieve Grewal, Christie’s Indian rep, invited a coterie of connoisseurs. Vinci Chang, head of sale, 20th century Chinese and Asian Contemporary Art, Hong Kong, was seen crowd-surfing, engaged in delightful, intellectual banter with the select guests Farah and Riyadh Oomerbhoy, Riyas Komu, Roohi Jaikishen and Laila Rajpal Khan. Sharda Dwivedi, Elina Meswani, Anil Dharker and Pheroza Godrej were eyeing up the art.
Showstopper The international selection of South East Asian art that wowed even the loftiest of collectors.
