New Delhi Union Home Minister P Chidambaram offered an olive branch to Maoists saying that Government will be willing to start dialogue process with them if they abjure violence.

"If the CPI (Maoist) will make a statement and call a halt to violence, Government would be willing to start a process through which the State Government concerned and the Central Government can hold talks with them on any issue that concerns them and the people they claim to represent," he said in a letter to former Lok Sabha Speaker Rabi Ray.

Chidambaram was replying to a statement made by Ray and some eminent persons on the Maoist menace recently.

"I sincerely will prevail upon the CPI(Maoist) to abjure violence," he said in the letter, copies of which were sent to Justice Rajinder Sachar, prof Rajni Kothari, Kuldip Nayyar, Aruna Rai and K G Kannabiran.

He said the only hurdle to holding talks with the CPI (Maoist) is the violence that "stalks the areas in which they operate".

He drew attention of these eminent persons to the statements made by various Maoist leaders especially Muppala Laxman Rao (Ganapathy) and Mallojula Koteshwar Rao (Kishenji), justifying violence and armed struggle.

Chidambaram pointed out in his letter that in 2009 alone CPI (Maoist) caused 183 violent attacks on economic targets including railway tracks, telephone towers, power plants, mines, school buildings and panchayat bhavans.

Chidambaram to Maoists: Give up violence, come for talks by Jaideep on 21 Oct 2009

Mr. Chidambaram...In the past 15 days you have contradicted your own words big time:1. First you said that IAF will be allowed to use fire power against these Maoists.2. Then you said that the Indian Army will be sent in to reign in these people.3. Then you said that states will be asked to form join operation teams to control this menace.4. Now you are saying come for talks????????Mr. Chidambaram...will you stop playing politics and come out clean and accept that Maoism / Naxalism regenerated only in 2005 .i.e. one full year after Congress came to power in 2004. And that in 2004, your government specifically said " WE WILL CURB THIS MENACE BY TALKS". The Joint operation of Police Forces was in place when your party took power in 2004, it was initiated by the erstwhile BJP/NDA government and proved to be highly successful and your government chose to disband it then?Result : 4000 people have died since 2005 at the hands of this maoists.Shame on you Mr. Chidambaram.

Distorted history by suresh Tumkur on 21 Oct 2009

The british created the congress just to make the freedom movement non-voilent.They pretented to be affraid of satyagrahas while they looted the country and the congress leaders(british agents)were paid the benifits. The logic is the british came here for looting the wealth nothing but thiefs, now do you belive that a thief comes to your house and you do satyagraha before him

Chidambaram for India by sibu varghese on 21 Oct 2009

Chidambaram is the man who stood India strong at the times of world economic crisis and now the second most important aspact of economic growths aso in his hands. I am 100% sure that he will will achieve this goal too. although he will have to go through very tough times to achieve that goal but i have full faith in him. voilant activities to achieve a goal, has no space in a democracy. Their are thousands of other peacefull ways to put the problems, and cuncorns infront of govt. in the land of Mahatma Gandhi.

HAIL MAO by rahul on 21 Oct 2009

COLONIALISIM NEVER LEFT INDIA. IT STAYED IN THE SHAPE OF LORDLY POLITICIANS WHO ARE PERPETUATING DYNASTIC RULE BE IT SCINDIAS OR THE GHANDIS OR THE ABDULLAHAS.Maoists are simply rebelling against the exploitation of the havenots by opportunistic ,foreign educated scions of blue blooded families who believe it is their birth right to trample over the lower classes and profit from their misery.PEOPLE POWER HAS TO RISE.A CHANGE HAS TO TAKE PLACE.A NEW BEGINING HAS TO BE MADE.MAO-TSE-TUNG TRANSFORMED CHINA. I HOPE MAOISTS TRANSFORM INDIA .TIME IS RIPE TO DISCARD THE GANDHIS AND THE NEHRUS .TIME IS RIPE TO DO AWAY WITH PROFESSIONAL POLITICIANS,CORRUPT BEURAUCRATS AND FAT CAT EXPLOITERS.TIME IS NOW.LETS DO IT.

Naxalites needs Fosters Beer and Jhonny Walker by Jacob Varghese on 21 Oct 2009

Peace not war in this world by william on 21 Oct 2009

Mr.Chidambaran our home minister should be congratulated for calling Mao communists for peace talks to solve their problems. Our home minister is offering the sign of peace to all who oppose him.It is gesture of maturity of our politician and rightly he deserves credit and our appreciation to solve our problems.

Naxalism by narayanee on 20 Oct 2009

Growing unemployment, empty rhetoric, widening gap bewteen rich and poor, increasing westernisation, corrupt political system , ever obliging buraucracy to these politicians, exploitation of tribals...all lead to surge in the naxalism. 1000S of crores are spent to construct statues...memorials..I think the day is not far away when the youth rush to join the naxal movement rather than Indian military. We need to adopt carrot and stick approach here.Anyway hycpocricy of Indian politicians are being exposed.

chidus special treatment by prem seth on 20 Oct 2009

after taking minorities into confidence, now its time for naxals/maoists appeasement by the congress. Modi is haunted till date by the media n congress for deaths of 95 civilians, what about 2600 n more deaths at the hands of these naxals? moreover chidu wants to extend an olive branch n invite these barbarians for talks!!!! where r so called human rights activist now? according to timid chidu these naxals r to be "treated differently", seems to me that they will be treated as state dignataries. i repeat ,congress, naxals n maoists r biggest threat to India.

Naxals by Rajendra M. Parikh, Arlington ,Texas USA on 20 Oct 2009

Dear Readers,I agree with Mr. Kalpathy Venkatraman, In a civil and democratic society violence has no place. Educated peopleshould not have guns in their pockets and demand forjustice. The justice has to be earn. They are responsiblefor destruction of public property including railway andother public institutions. What foreign or domestic companywould like to invest their money where they can not seeany return of their money. For sixty years other states have progressed with technology and industries. They are Indian citizen after all that does not mean theycarry guns around and threaten other citizens. If they persist with violence then they should be eliminated. First they should give their weapons and come to the negotiation table. They should be given chance andsee the change. Other wise round them up and put themto fix the destroyed properties.Thank you,Jai Hind and God bless India and Indian armed forces.Sincerely,Rajendra M. ParikhArlington, Texas USA

First provide jobs to the youth by P.Sermuga Pandian on 20 Oct 2009

To eradicate the Moaist menace, the Govt must take special steps at least now to provide jobs to all the youth. The unemployment is the real cause for it pushes them to the Naxals side.

Yaar yeh PC kya banda hai by Kuldeep on 20 Oct 2009

I was not aware things are sooo simple, you appeal nexals and they will do.Try this with China also :)

Naxalite Problem by Kalpathy Venkataraman on 20 Oct 2009

I appreciate Chidambaram's new approach to solving the Naxalite problem. The Naxals are Indians to start with and I am sure their movement is not aimed at disintegrating India. They are educated people left behind by the prosperity of India due to corrupt politicians and oppressive police. We should try to put their destructive energy into constructive use. Rather than spending millions of rupees sending police and special forces into Naxal infested areas, spend that money for the improvement of tribal areas in terms of education, transportation facilities, health care, employment etc. The antidote for Naxalism is Rama Rajya and not Sonia Rajya. This should be done on fast track within the next 3 to 6 months. Even after providing the Naxals with assurances they need for economic development, if they still resort to violence and destruction, the Government should then use full force to eliminate them.

You get what you ask for by YD on 21 Oct 2009

But Congress says "Ram did not exist". So, in turn, Congress has ruthlessly imposed on Indians, mainly through vote bank and illitrates, Antonia Maino alias Sonia Gandhi raj.

Culpable negligence by Hero Vaz on 20 Oct 2009

The Maoist/Naxal menace has arisen because of a major failure of the central and state governments and the IAS and IPS officers arising out of their negligence and incompetence.

First give independence by Raj Thackrey on 20 Oct 2009

Before talks india should first and foremost give independence to the states. There has been force used against the innocent, unarmed maoist fighting for their independence. India should stop using force and india should be given ultimatum. Similarly other states of india fighting for there freedom should also be set free and form a new constitution.

Congress had taken Naxal help in winning election in Andhra in 2004 and will not go against Naxals. As Maoists are fighting arm of Communists, Naxals may be the fighting arm of Congress.

Freedom struggle by Raj Thackrey on 20 Oct 2009

For the first time you have admitted that they are not terrorist, these people are freedom fighters fighting for their independence against the tyrant rule of india. The international community should intervene and crush the indian forces for their barbarism against the innocent, unarmed civilians.

You dont know the Indian forces, they will crush your 'international forces' like mosquitoes. These guys can win against puny countries like vietnam and iraq what they will win against India. In fact it is time India procatively sent out its forces to crush China completely. China is actually a very very weak country that is a nuisance to the world.
