Beijing, March 5: Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday promised that the Beijing Olympics in August this year would be a ‘unique, well-run sporting event’.

China would prepare for and organise the Games well, strengthen cooperation with the international community and create an excellent environment for the Olympics, Wen told the country’s parliament, National People’s Congress in Beijing.

“All sons and daughters of the Chinese nation are looking forward to them (Olympics)...,” he said.

The Games would be of great importance in promoting China’s economic and social development and increasing friendship and cooperation between Chinese people and people of other countries, the Chinese Premier said.

China has been going the whole hog spending billions of dollars to showcase its multi-faceted capabilities to the world through the Olympics.
