Ottawa, March 28: China's ambassador to Canada has said the Dalai Lama is a ‘serial liar’ and those who attack China's record on human rights are being irresponsible.

"The Dalai Lama has been telling lies to the world for decades," Shumin told journalists at the Chinese Embassy.

Shumin showed journalists a video that provides glimpses of violent street demonstrations in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa and said that they had to be suppressed.

The ambassador accused the Tibetan spiritual leader of "pretending to be a peaceful, like an angel-type of figure."

But, he added, "What has happened in Tibet was instigated by separatist groups led by Dalai Lama clique."

"Any remarks made accusing China of so called human rights suppression, I consider that irresponsible and inappropriate and it's interference in China's internal issues," he added.

Shumin shrugged off talk that some government officials from western countries could boycott the Olympic opening ceremonies as a result of the crackdown, saying no one has yet confirmed their attendance.

But he said politicising the Games goes against the Olympic spirit and should not happen.

His torrent of criticism came as world leaders press Beijing for restraint in the violence in Tibet that, according to Tibet's government-in-exile, has claimed 140 lives, as well as the need for consultation with representatives of the Dalai Lama.

Shumin also likened Tibet's traditional governance to Nazi Germany. He claimed that prior to China's takeover, Tibet resembled "medieval Europe" and cited a 1939 trip to the mountainous enclave by a Nazi official who, he said, found much in common with the Tibetan system of governance.

On Thursday US President George W Bush had expressed concern about Tibet in a phone call to Chinese President Hu Jintao.

This is a a pretext for a asian union but have no dought China will be victorious in this endevour and will turn out to be even more powerful. China is the biggest liar! by Raju on 29 Mar 2008

The world has no interest in conflicting China but we all know that Chinese rulers are the most liar group of people in the world! Can of these people of China's ruling people can stand the way Dalai Lama enjoys the respec to his people? From Mao to Modern day Chinese rulers have ruled that nation on strength of propaganda and decit. They just walk into Tibet and unfortunately India agree with their claim on territory bringing them to near Indian borders and now chinkos are claiming Arunachal, Ladakh and some of the area of Kashmir. To make the relation good with China, Pakistan has surrneder some area of POK to China too at the same time Pakistan is working as needle under the arm of India.

Who is lying to whom? by DILIP/FRANCE on 28 Mar 2008

This kind of xenophobic and bigoted attacks goes to prove China's desperation and weakness in covering the Truth. Thois misguided diatribe of the Chinaman, proves the point that China has no moral and spiritual rectitude to soppress and oppress the Tibetians. Why has gone carried out balanket news censorship, if China has the moral high ground? Why not foreign journalists allowed in Tibet? The truth is the opposite despite his rant what China is carrying out is a brutal suppression of HUMAN RIGHTS has grotesque cultural GENOCIDE. China is the biggest desp[otic and fascist state, let the world be known.

China v/s Dalai Lama by Varinder Sarin on 28 Mar 2008

Chinese Ambassador is saying what he has been told to say. As a matter of fact whole world knows the case is reverse. Mr. Ambassador should know it well that Chinese atrocities on innocent Tibetans will not go unpunished. God's mill grinds slowly but surely. For an example who is lying on Arnchal Pardesh, Chinese or Dalai Lama?Think before you speak, look before you leap Mr.Ambassador.
