New Delhi, March 28: The Tibetan Government-in-Exile on Friday claimed some Chinese intellectuals have supported the struggle by the people of Tibet and have made suggestions on how to deal with the ethnic conflict.

“Even Chinese intellectuals have come out in support of the Tibetans,” Youdan Aukatsang, member, Tibetan Government-in -Exile said at a symposium in New Delhi on the subject “Genocide in Tibet - What the World Should Do”.

Reading from the 12 suggestions given by some Chinese intellectuals for dealing with the Tibetan situation, she said “We condemn any violent act against innocent people, strongly urge the Chinese government to stop the violent suppression”.

She said the intellectuals have supported Dalai Lama’s appeal for peace and hope that the ethnic conflict can be dealt with according to the principles of goodwill, peace and non-violence.

The 12-point suggestion also advised that the Chinese government should allow credible national and international media to go into Tibetan areas to conduct independent interviews and news reports.

Participating in the symposium, J M Mukhi, law scholar and Supreme Court advocate said “It is time we stop behaving like chickens. The government should stop its fear of going out in open in support of Tibet. The Ministry of External Affairs should intervene and take some steps”.

“It is not for Tibetan interest but for the interest of we Indians that we should stand for Tibet,” said Vijay Kranti, senior columnist and Tibetologist.
