Hyderabad, September 5: Telugu matinee idol Chiranjeevi's fledgling Praja Rajyam Party claimed that it was the only alternative to the ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh.

"Since Congress is in power, we say that we are the real alternative to the ruling party. We say this on the basis of our strength in the state," Praja Rajyam's spokesman P Mitra told reporters in Hyderabad.

He rejected Congress claims that Praja Rajyam Party would come a cropper in the Assembly elections. Chiranjeevi launched his party on August 26 at a massive public meeting in the temple town of Tirupati.

Several senior leaders, including K Vidyadhara Rao, B Nagi Reddy and his wife Sobha and T Sitaram from the main opposition TDP, have joined the new party.
