The latest casualties include two residents of Kanauli village — Sharbati (2) and Sunita (15)—and Sunaina (3) from Mauli Jagran in Chandigarh.
While the Panchkula Administration claims of having brought things under control, more than 30 suspected cases of diarrhoea have been registered in the hospital.
“There have been nearly 30 cases of suspected diarrhoea cases reported from the Indira, Rajiv, and Azad Colony, of which 12 are suspected to be suffering from cholera. Most of the cases include children below 10 years,” added the doctor.
An Indira Colony resident Suman, whose daughter Reema (5) is suspected to be suffering from cholera, said: “After the heavy rains, the area has become a breeding ground for such diseases. There are a large number of such cases in our colony too.”
“It was after we got reports from social workers in the area that the doctors were sent from the hospital but by the time they reached, the two had already died,” said a doctor.
Mohan Lal, father of Sunaina, said that his child had been vomiting for the last few days after which she was rushed to the General Hospital, Sector 6, where she was declared brought dead. While the DC Panchkula, Rajender Kataria, was not available for comments, Executive Officer (EO) of the MC, OP Sihag said, “The DC along with the HUDA and MC officials visited Rajiv colony today.
