Brown, 19, who was arrested for allegedly assaulting 21-year-old Rihanna, faced immense public criticism. His career also took a hit, as radio stations removed his songs from their play lists and artists like chart-topper Florida decided not to collaborate with him.

The singer is now trying hard to get back into the good books of Rihanna, who enjoys great clout in the music industry.

Brown tried to appease her by sending her a diamond bracelet and necklace for her 21st birthday last week and also made an emotional phone call begging her for forgiveness, reported ‘People’ magazine.

A source close to Rihanna told the magazine, "Chris called Rihanna to wish her a happy birthday. He knows he's in the doghouse right now, and is doing everything he can to show her how sorry he is."

Many believe that Brown has for all practical reasons ruined his career as Rihanna is one of the highest paid artistes in the industry, having collaborated with heavyweights including Jay -Z and Kanye West, who have all come out in support of her after the incident.

Brown, who will attend his first hearing next month, also fears for his life as he has been receiving threatening messages from supporters of Rihanna and has reportedly surrounded himself with security guards.

"Chris is a marked man. He faces criminal charges and possible jail time, but he's going to have to deal with Rihanna's legion of fans and her close-knit friends in the industry," a music insider told ‘In Touch’ weekly.

"That photo was the last straw," the music insider added while referring to the leaked photo of a battered Rihanna taken after she was beaten by Brown.

"The threats started pouring in the moment that appeared online." the source told the magazine.

The incident took place on Grammy's eve when the pair started an argument while in their car over a text message sent to Brown by an undisclosed woman.

The argument escalated in to a fight which left Rihanna with a swollen and bruised face.
