Kolkata, March 26 They are expecting to shell out a whopping amount of no less than $7,000 every month. But this season’s I-League runners-up Churchill Brothers isn’t too worried paying up the phenomenal sum of money. Despite being flooded with a clutch of applications from various candidates for the senior team coach’s job, the Churchill top brass appears to have zeroed in on Nigerian World Cupper Emeka Ezeugo.

Churchill Brothers’ previous coach Karim Bencherifa left the Goan outfit this season and signed up with Mohun Bagan, forcing Churchill to go on a fresh coach-hunt.

Speaking on the new development, Churchill Brothers club secretary Joaquim Alemao made it clear that the club wound’t mind paying the Nigerian coach the huge money that is on offer. “Despite the dearth of a financial flow in the last 10 years, we are not much worried about Emeka’s montly fees. Let us see how he looks at the offer,” Alemao said.

Emeka is expected to have a detailed discussion with the Churchill Brothers management in the first week of April. And if Emeka agrees to the terms and conditions and the amount of monthly salary, he might end up as the highest paid coach in the history of Indian football.

Emeka is no total stranger to Indian football, having played for Kolkata clubs East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting when he was in India briefly as a student in the late eighties. He also briefly turned up for Mohun Bagan.

The Nigerian player-turned-coach represented his country in the 1994 World Cup in the USA and also took part in the Seoul Olympic Games back in 1988.

The lanky midfielder now holds a USSF ‘B’ coaching license and a KNVB Netherlands international license. At present, the former World Cupper is busy training at the New York City College of Technology, the USA.

After picking up his coaching licence, Emeka acquired formidable experience of training several club teams in the last seven years. He was the head coach at Cuny’s Borough of Manhattan Community College in 2000. After that, Emeka went to Peru to play in the professional league as well as training Deportivo Municipal in Lima for two seasons before coming back to the United States.
