City police best overall contingent

Chandigarh, January 27 Chandigarh Police were awarded the overall best contingent award at the Republic Day Parade held at Parade Ground Sector 17 on Saturday.

The best contingent police was given to UT Ladies Police followed by UT Traffic Police and Punjab Armed Police.

In NCC contingents, Naval Wing bagged the first position, Army bagged the second while Air Wing came third.

Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 C, came first in girls guide and scout category, Government Model High School, Sector 43 A, came second while Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 21 came third.

Best contingent School was awarded to Government Model Senior Secondary School, Mani Majra, followed by

Strawberry Field World School, Sector 26 and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16.

In cultural events Bhangra by Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 40, came first, Vande Matram by K V DAV School, Sector 8, came second while Rajasthani Dance by Mount Carmal School, Sector 47, got third prize.

A new award this year of The Best Contingent Commander was given to Sub Inspector Balbir Singh of UT Home Guard. A colorful cultural programme was presented by the students of K V DAV School, Sector 8, Mount Carmal School, Sector 47, and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 40.

Five police personnel were also awarded by Adviser Pradip Mehra, chief guest on the occasion, for their meritorious services.
