SP Prasad, Chief Divisional Manager, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), denied the shortage of diesel at the company-owned pumps and said,” The pumps of Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPC) have less stock. Because of this, the clients are rushing to our pumps and hence the demand has exceeded the supply. Our company will be matching with the demand of the pumps and hence will not let any IOC pump go dry.”
The city has 85 petrol pumps of which 30 are owned by IOC. Though Prasad claimed that IOC pumps are having enough stocks, enquiries revealed that apart from HPC and BPC pumps, a number of IOC pumps have limited stock.
Newsline team found that BPC pumps at Bharat Nagar and Fountain Chowk were dry. The HPC pump near railway crossing on Pakhowal Road had also declared diesel out of stock. Similarly, IOC pumps at Hambaran Road and Gill Road were also running with limited diesel supplies.
Meanwhile, IOC petrol pump dealers also met Prasad this evening over the issue of diesel shortage. Prasad said,” One customer came at our IOC pump on Ferozepur Road after travelling 10 kilometres of distance. He found stock at our pump. So we are coping with the demands of customers to a great extent.”
