Chandigarh, February 7 Chandigarh is facing an acute shortage of LPG cylinders. The shortage comes in the wake of closing down of a few gas plants in Punjab. However, officials concerned are hopeful of tackling the shortage by this month-end.

Meanwhile, the officials concerned have initiated an exercise wherein if a particular address has more than one connection, it is being cancelled.

All India LPG Distributor Federation (North Region) President KJS Dhutter said, “A few gas plants in Punjab are not operating for the last couple of days. But the officials are working on meeting the demand-supply gap. We hope to curb the shortage soon.” Dhutter looks after LPG supply to Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

It takes more than a month to deliver a cylinder now. Earlier, it used to take at the most 20 days to execute the order.

Sunita Sharma, a Sector 22, resident said, “We are facing a lot of problem due to the shortage of cylinders. Whenever we contact our gas agency owner, they say the shortage will be taken care of soon.” Amar Singh, a resident of Sector 19, said, “It is really harassing. We have a huge family and it has become difficult to carry out our daily chores. I have been managing the gas supply with the help of friends and relatives.”
