Kolkata, April 11 The officers of the Licence Department of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will begin inspection from Monday to check if the ceremonial houses are abiding by the guidelines. The measure follows the High Court directive for owners of marriage houses to get their licence renewed in the next three weeks. If the KMC norms for such buildings are violated, the civic body will cancel the renewal of the licences. “We are checking the safety norms of such houses so that none of the norms is flouted,” said mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattachrarya.

As per the municipal rules, no ceremonial house can be constructed within a 300 metre radius of an educational institution, hospital, religious place and residential complexes.
