The club has made plans to display huge vinyl photographs of the blast scene at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
“We want to depict the reality with a message to those who conspired to cause harm to the people in Ahmedabad. We do not want to cause harm to anyone through these pictures. We just want to bring the truth closer to the people,” said Pintu Patel, an organiser.
The club will also display a small model of the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital along with the ambulances of the 108 Emergency Service that were present at the spot at the time of the bomb blast.
Previously, the club had displayed a poster of a huge mushroom cloud in 1998 following the Pokhran nuclear tests. These were followed by scenes of the Kargil conflict the following year.
An organiser said they have been celebrating the Ganesh Chaturthi festival for 25 years, but it was only after 1998 that they started to highlight current issues at the pandals.
Patel refuted suggestions that the photographs will open the wounds, saying that the TV channels and the newspapers are highlighting the aftermath of the blasts even now.
“We praise the Gujarat Police for completing the investigations in 20 days. What we want to show by means of the celebrations is that we are not scared of the terrorists. We are making a video for the people so that they can overcome the fear,” he said.
Incidentally, the police have, over the years, conducted unofficial checks on various Ganesh Chaturthi programmes to see if that provocative demonstration is not put up. The police said they do not have any information that pictures of the blast are being put in the Ganesh Chaturthi puja pandal.
