"I am very excited," Clinton told reporters when asked about her India trip.
"I am very much looking forward to my trip next week," she said. The dates of her visit have not been announced yet.
Recollecting memories of her first trip to India as the First Lady of the US, Clinton said: "I was thrilled to go to India for the first time as first lady, and to begin a process that has led us to this point with the contributions of many along the way, that really demonstrate that the world's largest democracy and oldest democracy have so much more in common than, perhaps, was first recognised."
TO CREATE DEEP STRATEGIC TIES
Ahead of her much anticipated India visit later this month, Clinton said the Obama Administration is working with the Government of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to create a "very deep and broad strategic engagement".
"We are working hard with our Indian counterparts to create a very deep and broad strategic engagement," Clinton told the State Department press corps at a hurriedly convened press conference after meeting the deposed Honduras President Manuel Zelaya at the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the State Department.
"I am very much looking forward to my trip next week," Clinton said even as no official date of her trip has been announced yet.
"It is my hope that we'll be able to announce our intentions when I'm in India, and that we will be cooperating and working together across the broadest range of concerns that our two governments have ever engaged on," she said in response to a question.
"I am very hopeful that the relationship between the United States and India, which has improved considerably over the last 15 years, continues on the path that we are on," she said.
Identifying India as an emerging global power, Clinton said the recent election has provided political stability.
Clinton said the new government is very committed to pursuing a very activist domestic agenda, particularly around poverty and conditions that people in rural India, as well as its emphasis on development and job creation. It is also looking for ways that India can play a role, regionally and globally, on economic issues and other matters that confront us, she said.

I completely agree with Dr. Rayatha. Whenever anyone from a foreign country comes to India - whether a politician, celebrity, sports person, we line up to garland them and put tilak on their foreheads. That is why they take us for granted. For example, this richard geare guy had the guts to forcibly kiss Shilpa Shetty on stage because he knew he was literally "worshipped" in India simply because he is from a foreign country. Please stop giving too much importance to anyone visiting India from a foreign land and have some self respect first.
Going through the comments here I find most of them in poor taste of a mind set which has no basis in today's world. Gone are the days when Americans used to dictate terms and gone are the days when Indians used to get dictated. Grow up guys. In my view present day Indian leadership is far more evoled than most of you are. Rest assured, Indian leaders will deal with Mrs Clintor or for that matter anyone at equal terms and in national interest.
Mrs. Clinton plans to visit India, and our media has started reporting with a big bang. Why is it so? When President Clinton had planned his visit to India, one month in advance our journalists started reporting minutest details of his visit, his likes and dislikes in food, etc and spreading RED CARPET long before his visit. Why is this so? Don't we have any self-respect? According to our Indian culture we do respect and treat nicely our guests, but why such an approbation and an attitude of so much high regards for any western dignitary? Do our Indian leaders get the same treatment when they visit the US or other nations? Are US media taking note of our leaders before, during, and after their visit? Hardly a little space (a single column) might be granted by print media, but I am yet to see any such news telecast on American TV. Please Indian Media, have some self-respect and self-control in the coverage of foreign leaders and don't be so competent andover-enthusiastic.
Without being offensive or too personal...apology tendered in advance if you do feel hurt...(We Indians are used to being "Hurt" by our own spineless leadership...so you are from USA... and we will not feel hurt )India will be very "Grateful" to her if she could convince herself "FIRST" and then try explain to Indian public if she can differentiate and justify : Good Taliban from Bad Taliban...same way as from Good Monica Levensky from Bad... and believe me this nation of "Spineless leaders" will thank you from bottom of our hearts..Genuinely.....to clar the air about Obama Administrations "Af-Pak" game plans.....
She is excited because she might be a fan of Indian food. Otherwise the US has nothing to talk to India as long as they keep supporting Pakis.
Is she carrying along Bill with her or comming alone??
I feel when Mrs.Hilary comes to India she need to declare to the Indian public what she wants from India and what ruling party is going to do. I do not trust the present govt because their reaction and action does not suite the Indian public. When we have a puppet govt ruling and secondly an Italian lady ruling from outside it is high time the govte declare why Mrs.Hilary is coming and for what? I hope the puppet govt knows she is coming for America interest and If Dr.MMS if he is not able to speak to the lady then he need to retire and enjoy is old age.
She will be excited. The US government funds terror attacks on India by routing it through Pakistan and the Indian governments do not even protest. Our political leadership welcomes such visits !The biggest threat to civilisation is a terrorist outfit called the Pak army. The biggest financier of this terror outfit is the government of US represented by Clinton. If MMS
Perhaps we Indians can mend our fences with Sri Lanka and Nepal, but relations with Bangladesh will improve ONLY after the whole of India embraces the Bangladeshis' violence preaching religion and the Indians themselves after their conversion try to convert Nepal,Sri Lanka and Bhutan to their new found religion.
People tend to remember Hillary as a pro-India first lady. She does not, however, belong to the same category of statesmen as her husband. She went hammer and tongs at the present president during the election campaign, yet endorsed his policies as Secretary of State. Clearly her agenda does not come even close to what India expects regarding Pakistan and, in my opinion, will be hard-pressed to even table a discussion on terrorism emanating from Pakistan. Nonetheless, it is eminently important that India engages the US on these and other issues, both political and economic, using all available platforms and fora. Her counterpart in India should be aware that she is a master at sweet-talk with little or no substance to back up. India must remain unrelentlessly focussed on terrorism and Pakistan. Maybe a quick look at the hard-hitting Iran and defiant N. Korea should prove to India that any compromise proneness is understood as a sign of weakness and exploited to their own advantage.
Hilary is coming to take care of American interest. Period. Unless India negotiates her term hard with her, we will always end up on the loosing side. So, if India looses out, blame the Indian leaders, not Hilary. Jai Hind.
1)Resumption of talks between India and Pakistan, so that Pakistan can reduce its forces from her eastern frontiers.2)India should reduce arm forces in KashmirOur skin has become so thick that insults no longer hurt us. Let the Government tell the parliament the purpose of her visit and what actually does our Government wish to achieve.
Clinton will remain excited till she gets more than she gives. We mustn't forget Hilary equated Mahatma Gandhi to the Indians filling petrol in their gas stations. That's her mindset. Basically, she will do whatever it takes for us to fill her petrol while she'd keep driving the swanky car. We must engage her but need to be always on our toes. Hopefully whoever interacts from India wouldn't suffer from inferiority complex.
Liers Americans, liers, liers. Talking fight against terrorism, and at the same time pumping billions of dollars to the terrorist country Pakistan! Liers Americans!
Yes, India should improve ties with USA as she has much to gain from such developments. However these should be done from the stand point of an equal partner. We donot wish to become American stooges. Also, friendship with America should not come with the price tag of having to jettison old friends like Russia and Iran, which is the way things appear to be headed now. If that happens, it would be the greatest foreign policy disaster of modern India. Further, we need to mend our fences with neighbours like Bangla Desh, Shri Lanka and Nepal ASAP.
