It will be achieved through SOUL(Software for University Libraries) software to be provided by the Inflibnet (Information Library Network) centre in Gujrat.
The government has included 3 universities and 10 colleges in the first phase.
The Academic Staff College of Lucknow University has been given the responsibility to coordinate the project and accomplish it within the next three months.
Passing an order to the effect on May 5, the state government has allocated Rs 1.25 lakh to each of these universities and colleges.
While Rs 1 lakh would be used for building up the infrastructure including getting two computers and other equipments for the libraries of each of these institutes, Rs 25,000 would be used to install the SOUL and for training of the teachers by the Inflibnet staff.
The coordinator of the project, Director, Academic Staff College of Lucknow University, Prof Nishi Pandey said: “The idea is to ensure the digitisation of those universities and colleges that are not connected to the Inflibnet and do not even have the basic infrastructure required for it.”
Director Inflibnet, an inter-university centre of UGC, J Arora was in the Lucknow University today.
He said that the UGC is initiating J-Gate Custom Content for Consortia (JCCC) for universities registered under the Inflibnet.
The J-gate would ensure that apart from the 14 resources that are given free of cost under the Inflibnet, the connected universities are able to place a request for any particular resource or material that the other university has with it.
The institutions that will be included in the first phase of this project include University of Gorakhpur, BR Ambedkar University, Agra, Sanskrit University of Varanasi, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Government Degree College, Allahabad, Government Women’s Degree college, Bareilly and Kashi Naresh Government college, Bhadohi.
These universities and institutions are not in the Inflibnet network and the idea is to provide the basic infrastructure for their automation, so that even they can be included in the network soon.
