Ahmedabad, August 27 The communal history of many of the areas in Ahmedabad where the blasts took place on July 26 might have led the conspirators to select these places. According to the Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch (DCB), the masterminds of the blasts could have opted for the riot-prone areas thinking these places have the potential of getting local youths as planters of the bomb. Ashish Bhatia, Joint Commissioner of Police, DCB, told Newsline: "Many of these areas are riot-prone. And in such areas, it is relatively easy to get people who can plant the bombs. This seems to be one of the important reasons for the masterminds to select these places.”

He further said the conspirators also looked into several other aspects while selecting the target area. “For example, the planter should not be identified at the spot and the spot has to be such where no such incident was reported earlier,” Bhatia added. Over 20 blasts had ripped through the city on July 26 at places like Bapunagar, Danilimda, Hatkeshwar, Raipur, Sarangpur and Sarkhej. More than 55 people were killed and over 200 others were injured.
