Ahmedabad, November 30 The Congress ‘chargesheet’ against the state government, released on Friday, accused Chief Minister Narendra Modi of “harbouring contempt and hatred against Muslims”.

Running into 64 pages, the ‘chargesheet’ devotes three full pages to the Modi government’s indifference to Muslims affected by the 2002 riots.

Highlighting that “Modi’s hatred and contempt of Muslims is a well-known fact at the state as well as national level”, the ‘chargesheet’ says this was the reason why “he was reluctant in honouring the two Muslim cricketers, who did India proud in the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup”.

Narendra Modi exposed his prejudice by not announcing any prizes, despite widespread criticism in the media, states the report. “After the criticism, he deliberately got the prize announced by Lal Krishna Advani,” continues the ‘chargesheet’.

Accusing the state BJP government of doing nothing to rehabilitate the 5,307 Muslim families displaced during the 2002 riots, the ‘chargesheet’ states “the state government grossly failed to protect the lives and property of Muslim citizens”.

“While the state government has not allotted a single acre of land to the riot-affected, it has been distributing land freely to industrialists,” said the ‘chargesheet’.

Accusing the government of inaction, the ‘chargesheet’ states that Rs 150 crore of Central funds was not fully utilised while Rs 19 crore was returned to the Centre.

Stating that there were still many riot-hit families who had not received compensation, the document states, “It is shocking that riot-affected families have been deliberately pushed to above poverty line (APL) from below poverty line (BPL) category.”
