New Delhi, August 21: Congress initiated disciplinary action against senior leader and former Rajya Sabha member R K Anand who was convicted by the Delhi High Court for obstruction of justice.

"Obstruction of justice is a serious charge. We have taken note of it and referred the matter to the party's Disciplinary Action Committee," Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters in New Delhi.

Anand, a senior criminal lawyer, and another senior advocate I U Khan were found guilty of criminal contempt of court and obstruction of justice by the Delhi High Court in the BMW hit-and-run case following an expose done by a television channel.

The two criminal lawyers were convicted for obstructing administration of justice and they were barred from appearing in the High Court and other subordinate courts for four months and fined Rs 2,000 each as punishment.
