New Delhi, July 17: As the numbers game is in full swing ahead of the July 22 trust vote, CPI(M) on Thursday stepped up attack on the Congress on the issue of "taking recourse" to convicted Lok Sabha MPs to save the government.

The CPI(M) Politbureau said there were reports that some of the Lok Sabha MPs who have been convicted for "serious crimes" and who are in jail are being mobilised to support the government in confidence vote.

While legally the convicted MPs may get the right to attend Parliament and vote, "there is a question of political morality involved," the party said in a statement.

"The Congress leadership will be seen by the entire country as taking recourse to convicted criminals for sustaining their government," it said.

The statement pointed out there were three members who were convicted on criminal cases - Pappu Yadav, Mohd Shahabuddin (RJD) and Surajbhan (LJP).

While Yadav has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of CPI(M) MLA Ajit Sarkar, Shahabuddin was awarded life sentence in a case of kidnapping with intent to murder besides facing charges in the case of murder of a CPI(ML) leader Chandrasekar.

Bhan was convicted in a case of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, the statement noted.

we have heard ," the coal calling the kettle black!" Now we get remided of it when Karat waitsing on Mayawati to join them, and she wants a convict MP to vote! The country knows that Congress has been drivento the enecessity to seek the votes of convict s by the obduracy of Karat!

Criminals by SalamP on 18 Jul 2008

Criminals are criminals. These MPs are ignoring genocide of 60,000 Kashmiri Pandits, ignoring raps of muslim women in Nandigram, oil and cannon/weapon purchase schams, burning alive hindu pilgrims in Sabarmati express train, questioning Lord Ram's existance, placing red carpet for bangladeshi in w. Bengal and Assam for getting votes, threatening citizens to give vote for their parties only, sending a fax for Mr. Kalam's signature to Russia to dismiss past Bihar Government, releasing seized fund of crores of rupees, from foreign bank without proper approval, buying MPS or bribing a central ministiership in open market for N-deal, ignoring aam admis's problems and inflation, taking land away from Amarnath Temple Board and so on, on... , while calling other party as communal? Guess which two parties are behind these? Why complained? Both parties have same agenda and they will be together again in 2009. We deserve this nonsense if we vote (or not vote) in general election witout thinking

Convicted M.P's Votes by Sidharth on 18 Jul 2008

In the first place, why are they still M.Ps after having been convicted and put in jails. No government official or even a person working with Private company can retain his job, if he/she is convicted of a crime and is jailed. Why is then M.Ps, who are the law makers should be exempted from country's laws? No wonder people are losing faith in the system.Sidharth

Ban these criminals by Tushar arora on 18 Jul 2008

MPs convicted of any crime, should be thrown out and banned for life from contesting any public office or job ever.

Is it end-deal? by Melwyn Pereira on 18 Jul 2008

If CPM can join people who sow seed of hatred and make people kill each other then there is no wrong in UPA taking help of few convicts who want to see powerful and prosperous India. These people when they talk never look their back. When some one is trying to kill you and you know very well then its foolish to keep quite.Kill him with the same weapon to protect themselves. These China agents are all out to sell India to the chinese if they have their way. So go ahead Manmohan and do what ever possible to save the N-deal. Next elections the chinese agents are going to get it from the people if there will be midterm elections.

criminal support by richard on 18 Jul 2008

This shows even the criminals have more love for this country than the communists. It is not the fault of the Congress that these criminals have become MPs. There is an illiterate electorate which can be threatened, murdered and forgotten after the election. The communists are still doing it. Then why complain? If the left has supported the ruling party, this would not have happened. The blame is on the Left shoulders.

What has Left done to prevent criminals still holding the MP post? by Anand Babu on 18 Jul 2008

I agree with the left on this, getting the support of criminal MPs to win the trust vote is very humiliating. Better resign than seeking their support. What have you done so far, to get them sacked from the MP post. It is a shame on democracy someone in jail is still a peoples' representative. The poeple of that constituency have made a mistake, but the rule of the land cannot make mistake. That is a grave situation. You all are in the same boat.

trust vote by G.Sreenivasulu on 18 Jul 2008

It smacks of ridicule for the Congress to win trust vote by seeking the help of brazen criminals who are convicted to serve life imprisonment. Shame..Shame..Shame. The whole country, nay the world is looking at this dirty game of survival. It is better to perish instead of losing honour.

What morality ? by Ramdas Naik on 17 Jul 2008

What morality can the dear comrades preach when they are bedding with a fascist party on one side and a corrupt criminmally chargesheeted CM on another ?

Poor CPM by Eternal Truth on 17 Jul 2008

Its funny that since Manmohan Singh has pissed of CPM, everyday they are coming up with one allegation or the other to show their anger. Though to me it seems they are genuinely pissed off and highly frustrated. So here follows the golden law, what goes in comes around. They pissed off others earlier and now they are getting the same treatment in return.

criminal MPs by MT Raju on 17 Jul 2008

"While legally the convicted MPs may get the right to attend Parliament and vote, "there is a question of political morality involved," the party said in a statement." Political morality is an anathema to congress party! For this wretched party, thanks to Indira Gandhi, end justifies any means and morality was never a concern! It is also ridiculous that ciminals have a right to attend Parliament and vote! No wonder, Shivraj Patil recommends pardon for the fellow who bombed Parliament!

Modern India by Nisha on 18 Jul 2008

But cash for query MPs are not allowed to attend parliament by speaker.

Brick-bating is he hobby of Communists by P.P. TALWAR on 17 Jul 2008

It is ridiculous that the Left parties in India have chosen to teach others political morality. Looking at the left parties shabby doings in West Bengal, Tripura and Kerala, one is left in doubt that the Left parties who preach political morality to others, they themselves are the biggest culprits. Having lost their face in their battle of gunning for the ruling congres led UPA government, the left leaders are now stooping down to the lowest tactics of wooing every tom-dick and harry. But even the insignificant political parties having one or two Lok Sabha MPS are paying no heed to them. Despite left parties vicious propaganda against the congress leaders, the congress led UPA government will win hands down in the ensuing vote of confidence sheduled for 21-22 July 2008.

Morality of left parties by MT Raju on 17 Jul 2008

But congress was in bed with these same left parties for the past four years! Is it that, birds of the same feather flock together! Country had a taste of congress morality for good four decades of independent India!

Indian democracy- For criminals, by criminals and of criminals by Jay on 17 Jul 2008

It’s a shame on Indian “democracy” that Indian parliament and judiciary is allowing convicted, jailed MPs to carry out the duties as a policy makers while a govt employee is not allowed to resume his/her official duty if convicted. Convicted criminals must not be allowed to contest in any election and must not be allowed to enter Indian parliament and participate in any activity as an MP. Shame on any party that harbor such MPs and more shame to those who is trying to bring those criminals into parliament.

so what? if CPM can join people who sow seed of hatred and make people kill each other then there is no wrong in UPA taking help of few convicts who want to see powerful and prosperous India.
