Varanasi The Congress will decide by February 11 whether it would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh alone or in alliance with Samajwadi Party, the party's state unit has said.

"The alliance issue would be decided by February 11," the UP Congress Committee President Rita Bahuguna Joshi said while talking to reporters after addressing the party's Scheduled CasteScheduled Tribe divisional convention here yesterday.

She said that although the UPCC had already submitted its list of candidates for all the 80 parliamentary constituencies of the state to the party high command, in case of an alliance with SP, the Congress would field its candidates in at least 30 seats.

Echoing views of other party leaders that Congress would not share any platform with Kalyan Singh, she said her party's stand on SP joining hands with the former chief minister who has himself accepted "total responsibility" for the Babri Masjid's demolition would be clarified by the high command very soon.
