Nagpur The BJP’s second-rung leadership on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Congress for “thrusting on the country dynastic politics in the name of GenNext leadership” and claimed that “India, like the USA, is disturbed over political power getting concentrated in the hands of a few families”.

“The youth of the country has a future in the BJP alone. The Congress makes most of its appointments based on the family legacy,” said senior party leader Sushma Swaraj.

Addressing the party’s national council meet here on Sunday, she said: “Compare the Congress’s young leaders — Rahul Gandhi, son of the late Rajiv Gandhi; Jyotiraditya Scindia, son of Madhavrao Scindia; Jatin Prasad; Sachin Pilot; Priya Dutt — with our own leaders, none of whom have used the family legacy to move up the ladder, right from L K Advani, Rajnath Singh, Venkaiah Naidu to Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and others.”

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi went a step ahead and claimed that “the primacy of one family posed a danger to the future of the country”. “Ek parivar ke ateet ko aage badhane ke liye jo shadayantra chal raha hai, usse Hindustan ke bhavishya ko khatra hai,” he said. He claimed that while “members of one family had ruled the country for 37 long years,” the last five years of Manmohan Singh’s rule were “power without accountability for the family”.

Drawing parallels with the US experience, he said: “Two Bush family members ruled for 12 years. Clinton ruled for eight years. The Americans were disturbed over power getting concentrated in the hands of two families. That’s why they voted for Obama. India, too, is disturbed for similar reasons.”

“We need to tell the world that we have the maximum representation of the backward class, women and young MLAs and MPs. The average age of BJP MPs, MLAs and CMs is much less than other parties’ representatives, “ he said. He also said that the Congress had no place for leaders who didn’t have the right lineage. “Does the Congress remember Sardar Patel and Netaji? We organised a massive conclave in his (Bose) memory at Haripura where he had become the Congress president,” he said. Talking about another Congress leader who didn’t come from the family, he said that “but for P V Narasimha Rao, we would have seen the continuation of socialist pattern in this age of global competition”.

Dynastic Politics by Sonia Gandhi on 31 Aug 2009

Seriously dudes, I too sometimes wonder that, afterall, what is it that we "Gandhis" have with us that u guys keep on voting for us. Beyond Comprehension. Even my "aatma kee Aawaaz" cannot explain this conundrum. By the way, I hope and request that u will continue to vote for us irrespective of our performance.

Family Business by Pankaj on 10 Feb 2009

For over 100 years this family has done nothing but politics. Any other family doing nothing would have been ruined, but they are flourishing while the poor they stand for are still languishing. If you go to Amethi you will realize that they can not even manage a village properly, and our people assume they can manage a country.Well the joke is on us.

I agree with Modi ji by Raghu on 09 Feb 2009

I 100% agree with Modi ji.See the India where we are even after 60 years of independence.30 crore’s people below poverty line.(Actual figure may be more)No enough electricity. No good roads. No enough water. No good education. No security (Even no body talks about it if some talk about it he is communal).NO good hospitals.Only we achieved is secularism (It's have billion dollar market in India even in recession time)

Congress is .. by Abdul on 09 Feb 2009

It is because Congress is the party of poor people. And if poor people live normal life then on whom Congress rule??

BJP is better by Abdul on 09 Feb 2009

Everything going fine for BJP but after this Pub incident in Karnataka they will slightly wound in comming election.Still we can deny the fact that Advani as Pm and MODI as HM are the best leader for India at present situation.Congress will soon put an Islamic STAR_MOON sign in the middle of their HAND logo. This is the only future of Congress and Future of India if we stay with Congress .After Indra (who dosent care of Muslim votes like BJP do today) there is none left in congress who can lead this nation.

Modi, you are right! by Sunny on 09 Feb 2009

Yes, one parivar has destroyed the fabric of this country. That is the Sangh Parvar.

Finally by Tarun on 09 Feb 2009

Finally somebody with the guts to speak the truth publicly. Maybe the press will wake up and let the world know the truth about pseudo-secular people and parties who have undermined our country and interest at every opportunity for personal gain and continue to do so.

Dynasty is Tasty BJP is Nasty by INDIAN on 09 Feb 2009

Congress has successfully ruled India for the last tthirty seven yeard with less communal riots and disgrace of atrocities on women and children. BJP got a term or two and in all the BJP ruled areas there was communal riot and killing sof poor christians and muslims and demolishing of churches and mosques Congress is the only and only resolution if BJP comes to power they will also rape their own mothers and sisters.

DIFFER by AM on 11 Feb 2009

I BEG TO CORRECT YOU THAT THEY WERE MORE COMMUNAL RIOTS DURING CONGRESS RULE.IT WAS A FASHION EVEN THEN TO BLAME OTHERS AS CONGRESS CAN NEVER GO WRONG

BJP by J.M.Manchanda on 09 Feb 2009

Dynasty is a bad word but worse is the divisive politics. Let BJp stop spewing venom against the minorities and rakng up religious issues that pit one community against the other. If it takes up positive and forward looking policies, the electorate would surely give it a chance. After all, Mayawati too got it in UP the moment she enlarged her reach beyond the dalits. The gennext does not want Nehru/Gandhi-baiting or another Ram temple but policies and programs that show that BJP can take the country forward.

Dynasty Politics by N.Swaminathan on 09 Feb 2009

I fully agree with Mr.Modi that dynasty politics will ruin the country if it voted to power again. It is the later former Prime Minister Mr.P.V.Narasimha Rao was the person who led the country within the Congress rule to reach this kind economic consistency in the history of India. We should also remember, when Vajpayee took over as Prime Minister, followed same economic policy which has helped to sustain the momentum. I feel it is the non-Nehru family people only can lead to India to a progressive and developed country altogether.

Rahul must prove his ability by Jatin on 09 Feb 2009

I am not against Rahul Gandhi to become PM of India on his own merit. Being a son of some famous or powerful person does not make him either fit or unfit for any job. If Rahul wants to be a real national level leader and an able PM, he must get rid of the culture of sycophancy in Congress party and encourage honesty and ability to ask questions within the party. He must test his ability by allowing himself to debate and questioning, not by silencing critics and imposing himself on the nation. He should understand that he must acquire the leadership position who can deliver to the nation and its people. The same is true for BJP leaders. “Imposed” leaders like Sonia Gandhi; Banzir Bhutto etc can hardly become a true leader and destined to fail.

BJP is anti-youth hypocrites by JK on 09 Feb 2009

That's rich...“The youth of the country has a future in the BJP alone" then how come the BJP is the one against "Pub culture" and other things the youth actually want?Congress isn't particularly desirable but at least it stands for freedom

Culture... by Sandy on 09 Feb 2009

My dear, no one is against pub culture. It was done because of people forgetting indian culture.

dyanastic policies of congress by sharad on 09 Feb 2009

in the congress, not a leave moves without sonia gandhi. the leader without any accountability to the people of india. congress is most communal

No one can survive in Congress without unquestionable loyalty to Nehru-Gandhi family by jay on 09 Feb 2009

Sycophancy is in our blood. That is not limited to political arena, but present in almost all spheres of Indian society; starting from education and research (almost all prestigious fellowships and scholarships, director/VC positions of institutes/universities are awarded on the basis of personal connections), loans to industrial houses and business, plum administrative positions (particularly in foreign countries) and so on. Thousands of years of foreign rule started all these and then political parties like Congress not only continued it but also strengthened it. There are many kids of BJP leaders like Jaswant Sinha are trying to get into the family business of politics. But it’s much easier for any outsider to establish himself/herself in BJP than any other political party in India. The only exception is the communists. No one can survive in Congress without unquestionable loyalty to Nehru-Gandhi family.

Well said Mr Modi by Amarendu on 09 Feb 2009

Well said Mr Modi. Your views reflect the views of millions of youth across India. Sadly enough, there is still a mindset among educated elite (the editor of this newspaper included) that nothing is possible without the Gandhis. It is really worrying that we cannot trust in our own abilities, but can trust a foreigner to run this country...simply because she is from the Gandhi family. Dynastic rule has to end. We are all looking to you to lead our country to glory, Mr Modi. We are behind you.

Modi is right by Mangala Wadekar on 09 Feb 2009

There is no doubt about dynastic policy being our big malady. One generation earns corrupt money

Leadership as defined by Modi. by john jacobs on 09 Feb 2009

Democracy is all about choices decided by people at the hustings. If the favor falls on arsonists, avengers, dictators and communal chauvinists, then Modi types would be leading from the front.

modi's nonsense by rajesh on 09 Feb 2009

what a stupid guy? u should have given your chief minister seat to someone else in last elections. u give ur position to some other leader in ur state. we will see in next elections.

Vested interests by Hero Vaz on 09 Feb 2009

Dynastic politics is the curse of the country; it keeps good and able people out of politics. Which decent person would like to join politics and be humiliated by being kicked around by the members of a family? Do service to the people and merit have no meaning? Of course, if merit is adopted as a criterion, vested interests will be hit and, hence, the old rot has to be kept going by those in power to the detriment of the interests of the country and the people at large.

Congress’ dynastic politics threat to India’s future by K. R. Venkataramaiah on 09 Feb 2009

Gujarat CM Modi is correct in saying that political leadership should not rest in one family for generations. People of India should not vote for Nehru, Devegowda, KarunaNidhi, Rajasekhar Samuel Reddy, Maulyam Singh, and Karat family members. India will not progress under these families' leadership. It is dangerous to keep these families in power for decades. Similarly, at local levels, family dynasties should not be encouraged.

MODI by Arun on 09 Feb 2009

Modi is the biggest danger to India. It is his communal speeches and the Godhra incident which have divided India leading to Mumbai incident.

dynastic pollitics by Jospeh Anthony on 09 Feb 2009

I agree but the bjp should not field pramod mahajans daughter of son in the coming lok sabha elections to prove their point

modi correct on 2 family rule in US by SN Vyas on 09 Feb 2009

Modi is correct in saying Americans picked Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton during the democratic nomination as there were concerns that 2 families would have ruled for more than 20years. That is not a twist. I had headr it on CNN before.

Modi's hate crimes should be punished by Indian on 09 Feb 2009

Gandhi family has a tradition and has shown righteous path of secularism to our great country. People of India will also make sure you are put behind bars for your hate crimes against minority. Your actions have brought shame to our great country.

madresa by db on 09 Feb 2009

modiji, we elected congress since last 42 year because we people are sleve, we like corruption, poverty and hum gulam lok hai gulami hi pasand hen..

Modi by Sanjana on 09 Feb 2009

How true - Congress has been sponsering, encouraging and instigating terrorism, the latest one being fanatism in the name of feminism, which is destroying so many young people and their familes lives, ruing children's future - is it not an act of terrorism against India?
