Nagpur The BJP’s second-rung leadership on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Congress for “thrusting on the country dynastic politics in the name of GenNext leadership” and claimed that “India, like the USA, is disturbed over political power getting concentrated in the hands of a few families”.

“The youth of the country has a future in the BJP alone. The Congress makes most of its appointments based on the family legacy,” said senior party leader Sushma Swaraj.

Addressing the party’s national council meet here on Sunday, she said: “Compare the Congress’s young leaders — Rahul Gandhi, son of the late Rajiv Gandhi; Jyotiraditya Scindia, son of Madhavrao Scindia; Jatin Prasad; Sachin Pilot; Priya Dutt — with our own leaders, none of whom have used the family legacy to move up the ladder, right from L K Advani, Rajnath Singh, Venkaiah Naidu to Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and others.”

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi went a step ahead and claimed that “the primacy of one family posed a danger to the future of the country”. “Ek parivar ke ateet ko aage badhane ke liye jo shadayantra chal raha hai, usse Hindustan ke bhavishya ko khatra hai,” he said. He claimed that while “members of one family had ruled the country for 37 long years,” the last five years of Manmohan Singh’s rule were “power without accountability for the family”.

Drawing parallels with the US experience, he said: “Two Bush family members ruled for 12 years. Clinton ruled for eight years. The Americans were disturbed over power getting concentrated in the hands of two families. That’s why they voted for Obama. India, too, is disturbed for similar reasons.”

“We need to tell the world that we have the maximum representation of the backward class, women and young MLAs and MPs. The average age of BJP MPs, MLAs and CMs is much less than other parties’ representatives, “ he said. He also said that the Congress had no place for leaders who didn’t have the right lineage. “Does the Congress remember Sardar Patel and Netaji? We organised a massive conclave in his (Bose) memory at Haripura where he had become the Congress president,” he said. Talking about another Congress leader who didn’t come from the family, he said that “but for P V Narasimha Rao, we would have seen the continuation of socialist pattern in this age of global competition”.

Mdi by Sajiv on 08 Feb 2009

dear modi u have no authority on the behalf of india to decide its future.India is for ordinary Indians and they are capable of deciding their as well as yours future also.Gandhi Nehru Clan has given their blood to preserve the integrity of the country wheres you have killed thousand innocents in the most cold blooded murder. You may be god of Ambanis and Mittal because your ideology helps them directly still Gandhi and Nehru clan commands respect in millions of Indians and even outside India. You deserve a harsh and tough trial for the innocents who have been killed by you and your hindutva brigade.

Modi is a killer by saccha gujurati on 08 Feb 2009

yes, only one man responsible for all unrest in India that is modi - shame on him

Very well said.. by Chandra S G on 08 Feb 2009

I think what MODI said is absolutely right. The desperation of Congress-men to impress Sonia in projecting Rahul Gandhi and attributing the latest electoral results as 'success'.. and that 'engineered' by its young

One family has ruined everything in India: Modi by TA on 08 Feb 2009

Modi is not less, he is the CM of Gujrat for past many years why he doesn't prescribe the same medicine for himself and step down give other a chance; and be honorable statesman.

Nehru-Indira Mess by Eddy on 08 Feb 2009

Modi is right! Nehru and then Indira did immense harm to the nation. Nehru's eagerness to become Prime Minister cost the country the creation of Pakistan. If he had let Mohammad Ali Jinnah become Prime Minister, as Gandhiji wanted, Jinnah would have been dead with cancer within 3 months and Nehru would have been Prime Minister and Pakistan would never have been created. Now that country is a perpetual thorn in our side! Also, the Socialist policies of Nehru and Gandhi kept our country backwards as far as latst technology was concerned. Imagine, we got TV only in 1972!!! One had to wait at least 10 years to get a phone connection in Bombay, and the permit-license raj flourished! Modi is right, as much as I like Rahul and Priyanka!

On"Harmful comments". by Radhakrishnamurthy Mukkamala on 08 Feb 2009

This is with reference to Yester-day's "Open Invitation for a"Moist take-over". The commentator went to the extent of take- over of India by Moists of course on the Eve of Mangalore Pub incident. But this involves by force which is un-democratic

Modi is 100% correct by Tatha Mukherjee on 08 Feb 2009

Wow ! Modiji has hit nail on its head. Let Congress become a party of ideas, ability of its leaders. Let Congress announce PM outside its dynastic family. India will become a genuine democracy then.

Advani by Mukulesh Parikh on 08 Feb 2009

yes Mr modi is absolutly right..But at the same time we do not wont 200years old Advani as P.m> Matter of fact we want him to retire from public life and concentrate on Ram mandir..We also want to remove Sonia from India

Monarchy by Independent on 08 Feb 2009

Isn't Ramarajya also a monarchy. So Mr Modi wants his monarchy instead of some one else's. He is not asking for democracy.

Republic of India by Rabi on 08 Feb 2009

India needs to become a true Republic, not a feudalistic monarchy of the Nehru_Gandhi family. Long Live the Republic of India. Say 'NO' to feudalism. Indians should as Vivekananda said "Arise, Awake and stop not till the goal is reached" - which is true Democratic Republic of India

Stupid Narendra Modi by StupidNarendra on 08 Feb 2009

Stupid Narendra Modi -- he says a laughable thing "the victory of Barack Obama was the result of the American citizens being fed up with the stranglehold of a few families in politics..." Pity on this "leader" called Narendra Modi. Good that USA put a ban on him from entering USA ever, terrorist Narendra Modi.

Absolutely Right by aji on 08 Feb 2009

I fully Agree with Modi. This is the Family who destroyed India. People still cannot realise it..Gandhi is the biggest Minority appeaser.

One family ruined....... by V.Muthuswami on 08 Feb 2009

While it is an unfortunate fact of life that India has been in the strangle-hold of Nehru-Gandhi (no relation to the real Mahatma) and their self-serving cohorts and their most irresponsible governance over several decades, it is equally sad that the so-called alternative "BJP" still has to go for a 80 not-out guy whose past performance leaves much to be desired. Are there not any younger BJP politicos with a vision and leadership qualities to assume charge? With the kind educational and social systems we have adopted, and the kind of media funded and promted by another of self-seekers, the reality is India will continue to be governed by flawed systems managed by clever crooks for the foreseeable future. Anybody realising our state of the union and prepared to act?

Narendra Bhai Modi by sushilc@adil.com on 08 Feb 2009

I agree with this great Statesman and a Patriot. He is the right leader to lead India in to a great future. My respects to him and hope that he gains the powerful post in Indian Politics. India neds the leaders like him.

One family has ruined.. by Dr B Sundara on 08 Feb 2009

Whoever rules they must be accountable to the people. They must represent the will of the people. The political party leaders should see that they field candidates of proven record, integrity, competance to contest elections. They must avoid people with criminal record. The parties should build some definite character that should be considered as progressive and people oriented. The aim of any government should be bring economic benefits to larger section of the population. The economic benefit should reach the villages and should not be confined to urbun and the rich alone. There is a huge population in the country which is exploited either directly or indirectly. This must be corrected. Only promises will not help. Bringing prosperity to the country should be the joint responsibility of the ruling and the opposition parties. Election after election promises are made. But still we have largest number of hunger stricken people in the world. Will it be different after this election?

Modi is an insect in comparison to Nehru and Gandhi by Subhash Sampat on 08 Feb 2009

Fascist Modi is talking through his hat. When Motilal and Jawaharlal Nehru and Karamchand and Mohandas Gandhi were fighting for Independence from the British, Modi was not even born so what does he know of the families of these great leaders and what does he know of the history of the nation?

while speaking truth, it tastes bitter to the listeners by sarma on 08 Feb 2009

i cant agree more than this

Modi instead of Nehru family by M.A.Ayub Gohar on 08 Feb 2009

If Nehru family was not controlling India, Hindu fascists of Modi's ilk would have annihilated the Christian and Muslim minorities with Thrissools and Swords!!! Modi is lamenting that his elders could not subject the minorities all over India to a carnage of his Gujarat's magnitude.

True? Taking Kashmir to UNO, unconditional Return of Pakistani Prisoners in 71, Fake Secularism? by gary on 08 Feb 2009

Taking Kashmir issue to UNO instead of fighting to finish at the same time? was Nehru so busy in his personal affairs that he did not have time to fight? chinese attack in 1962? then Return of 93000 pakistani POW's after huge sacrifices by thousands of troops in 1971? Promoting one particular religion for decades under the garb of protecting minorities? Inexperienced members using name of "Gandhi" to mesmerize innocent rural indians?
