New Delhi, May 9: In yet another snub to senior leader Arjun Singh, the Congress high command rejected his contention that the decision-making in the party has "fallen into a bit of disarray".

"We do not agree with it. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has always been fair and transparent in holding consultations," AICC spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed said in New Delhi.

He said consultations were held at every level in the party before taking decisions and the party President also held discussions with the various allies in the UPA.

Arjun Singh is also a member of the Congress Working Committee, in which the leaders can raise whatever issue they want and can have a free and frank discussion, Ahmed said.

Maintaining that the Congress has always had a tradition of holding discussions within the party, he denied suggestions that the leadership has any lack of communication or a trust deficit with any leader.

To a question that the CWC meetings are generally being held for obituary references, he claimed that they were regular meetings of the apex policymaking body of the party.

Arjun Singh had in an interview had said: "Earlier there were many opportunities to contribute to the decision and even major decisions of the Congress were taken after going through the process of consultations and people used to accept it.

"But now this process has fallen into a bit of disarray and when people do not have feeling that they have contributed to the decision making process, then they have no hassles in defying it," Singh said.

Ahmed, however, refused to directly comment on the book, saying, "I will not comment on the book before it is released and I don't know whether such an interview is there."

This is the second time in one month that the HRD Minister has found himself at odds with the party high command.

His statement that there was nothing wrong in projecting Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate in the next elections had received a strong rebuff from the party leadership, with the AICC saying that Sonia and Rahul stayed away from an environment of sycophancy.

After all, age does not spare any one, as it comes on its own for nay one on this earth. Congres senior leader Arjun singh is no exception. Being a vcitim of ageing factor, Arjun Singh is behaing queerly , as such his off ther cuff remarks should not be taken seriously. In the interest of the nation and congress party, Arjun singh should resign from the congress party and seek retirement from politics.

Just wondering why "leaders" like Arjun or Gandhis survive/flourish in our country? by B. B. Goel on 10 May 2008

Without backboneless cadres/voters; coward, incompetent leaders never survive, leave alone flourish. What Arjun Singh is doing for Gandhis, he gets the same treatment from his followers and that “loyalty” thing trickles down to the lowest level of our society. And it’s not limited to politics or Congress any more; we see the same almost everywhere in India; in other political parties, in offices (both private and public), in home, in schools, in universities etc. We enjoy being “loyal” to the powerful and happily oppress weaker, less fortunate people. We blame our employer when we are employee but do worse thing when we are employer (in home for domestic help/servants). If we want to change Arjun type “leaders”, we need to change ourselves first.

Arju Singh by MOHAN DADDIKAR on 10 May 2008

Arjun Singh, like many of his colleagues, has found a birth in the cabinet not because of his competence but only because of his readiness to display abject psychophancy towards Nehru-Gandhi dynasty. He is frustrated because the chair of PM which he was aspiring to occupy has been usurped by Manmohan Singh, a political lightweight and a beaurocrat. He has showered tons of praise on Rahul Gandhi, who in his opnion is the only congressman fit to be the PM. Unfortunaely age is against Arjun Singh and he may not be able to reap the fruits of his chamachgiri.

Arjun Singh reflects true character of a typical Indian by jatin on 10 May 2008

As Mahatma Gandhi suggested, Congress party would have been dismantled immediately after independence. India could have a better prospect without such leaders like Arjun Singh and many such shameless “loyalists” of Nehru-Gandhi dynasty. Whole Congress party is full of such Singhs and that’s why the Gandhis survive and so does India’s misfortune. No amount of growth rate can make India a better, developed country so long subjects like Arjun Singh and kings like Gandhis exist in the country. Unfortunately, Arjun Singh just reflect the true character of a typical Indian; sycophancy, dishonesty and hypocrisy in our blood.

Very unfortunate but very true.... by B. B. Goel on 10 May 2008

It sounds rude, but unfortunately very true. We need to introspect before blaming only Arjun Singh. Without backboneless cadres; coward, incompetent leaders never survive, leave alone flourish.

One of the worst politicians the country has ever had... by Rajan on 10 May 2008

Arjun Singh, is perhaps one of the worst politicians the country has ever had. he has robbed people of millions innthe past, worse than what a day light robber would do - remember the Rajasthan lottery case - he is sly, a comploete hypocrite and shamelsss psychophant and a true crook, who the Congress party should be ashamed off and get rid of asap.

Dogs' envy, Gandhis' pride.... by B. B. Goel on 10 May 2008

Dogs’ envy, Gandhis’ pride, India’s misfortune, our incompetence- A true Congress “leader” Arjun Singh.

Old school by Sreenivas on 10 May 2008

Congress and other parties should get rid of these old, useless, and stupid leaders from their high ranking positions. Unwanted decisions made by these "expired" policiy makers will risk india's socio-economic future. However, we need more leaders like APJ (with young minds).
