Consumer Forum directs company to replace faulty laptop

Ludhiana, April 5 The District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum has directed a private company here to replace the laptop of a complainant after it was found faulty.

It has also issued a notice to HP India Pvt Ltd, the manufacturers of the laptop.

Vaneet Goyal, a resident of Upkar Nagar, had filled a complaint before the forum that he purchased a laptop from the Shree Radhe Infovision on Bindra Ban Road, on January 31, 2007 for Rs 46,000.

He alleged that after purchasing the laptop, it started causing trouble and he immediately approached the dealer, who then sent the laptop for repair to the Service Centre of H.P India Pvt Ltd in New Delhi.

He said that they replaced the mother board but the laptop still had problems.

He again sent the laptop to the Service Centre for repair, but the problem persisted.

He filed a complaint with the Consumer Forum stating that the “laptop was not up to the prescribed standards” and has been creating problems since day one.

On the other hand, the counsel for Shree Radhe Infovision, claimed that

the laptop is of “very high quality and had a warranty of one year”.

He admitted that there was a some problem in the laptop and therefore was sent to the service centre.

The service centre of the of the company replaced the faulty parts. But he denied that the laptop is still creating problems. The officials of HP India Pvt Ltd was not present before the forum to defend their case.

Forum members — president J S Chawla and Daljit Singh Bakshi — said that the complaint filed by Vaneet Goyal was justified.

The Forum held that Consumer has successfully proved his case.

The forum directed the respondents to pay a compensation of Rs 2500 to the consumer for mental agony and harassment on account of deficiency in services.

After hearing the arguments of the both side, Forum president Chawla accepted the complaint and directed Shree Radhe Infovision and HP India Pvt Ltd to replace the Laptop of the complainant.

They added that in case they failed to replace the laptop,they shall pay the price of the laptop to the complainant.
