Surat The Crime Branch of Surat police, on Friday, filed the chargesheet against three city youths accused of gangrape on a 17-year-old schoolgirl last month. The 375-page chargesheet was submitted before the Surat district court 41 days after the crime was committed on June 12.

The 375-page chargesheet has named Saiyed Shahid, Saiyed Tarik and Abubakar Memon as the accused. All three were arrested hours after the incident had taken place.

During their remand period, they were taken to the Forensic Science Laboratory, Gandhinagar, where narco analysis and voice spectrography tests were conducted on Shahid and Tarik.

Crime Branch Deputy Commissioner of Police Subhash Trivedi said: “We have carried out all possible tests on the three accused, which would be helpful to us to frame charges against them. We have attached reports of DNA tests, voice spectrography test and video clippings in the chargesheet.”

He added that it was probably “for the first time in the history of Gujarat that the police have filed chargesheet in 41 days”.

The three accused were beaten up at the Surat Civil Hospital in the month of June, where they had been taken for medical examination by the police.
