Ambala, May 1 Police suspect that accused may have left the country

The investigating team of the Ambala police is hunting for Tuhin, an electronic engineer from Bengal, for allegedly cheating a local Bengali woman, Shipra.

Already married to a NOIDA-based chartered accountant Deepa Mukherjee, Tuhin had married Shipra without divorcing his first wife.

The incident came to light when the local police registered a case against Tuhin and his parents after publication of a news item in the Chandigarh Newsline dated April 16, 2008. A dowry case was registered on the complaint of DD Chatterjee, father of Shipra. She is currently undergoing treatment at a mental hospital.

It is alleged that Tuhin tortured her for arranging Rs seven lakh for immigration to a foreign country. Even after receiving the amount by her father, Tuhin and his parents continued to harass her.

Subsequently, the investigating team raided Tuhin’s residence at NOIDA and came to know from the neighbours that the Mukherjee family had left the house and their whereabouts were not known.

The neighbours disclosed that Tuhin had married a chartered accountant Deepa and had parted ways with her without a divorce.

It is also suspected that Tuhin might have left the country by now. Chatterjee said that he was in touch with his relatives to know the whereabouts of Mukherjee family at Kolkata, where they had their ancestral house.

He said that he had also contacted Deepa to jointly pursue the case and expose Tuhin.
