Kolkata, July 23: In an attempt to bring an estranged couple closer for the sake of their child, the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday directed a man to take his wife and son to Puri to spend a week long vacation together.

Justice Asim Banerjee directed Subroto Bose and Priyanka to go to the beach resort along with their four-year-old son, while hearing a dispute over the child's custody.

Subroto, an assistant sub-engineer of the West Bengal State Electricity Board, married Priyanka in 2001 and were a happy couple till small disputes snowballed into a major ego clash between the two.

Separated in 2006, Subroto had appealed before the Chinsurah sub-divisional court for the custody of his son, who was staying Priyanka, but it refused to pass any order.

Against this, Subroto moved the High Court where Justice Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya directed that the son would spend weekends with his father.

Things went smoothly for some time before problems cropped up again and Priyanka allegedly stopped sending the child to her father. This prompted Subroto to move again to the High court seeking restoration of his rights.

Hearing their plea, Justice Asim Banerjee directed the couple to spend a week in Puri with their child and try to resolve their differences, for the sake of their son's future.

Justice Banerjee directed the couple to come back to the court on Thursday and report the outcome of the effort.
