Chandigarh Cricketer Harbhajan Singh, actor Mona Singh and an entertainment channel were issued summons on Thursday by a local court for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments with their Ravana-Sita dance act in a reality show last year.

The summons returnable by April 22 were issued by First Class Judicial Magistrate Rajneesh on a petition filed by NGO activist and local advocate, Arvind Thakur, and spokesman of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Vijay Singh.

Thakur, associated with NGO Global Human Rights Council, and the other petitioner had alleged that Harbhajan and Mona had hurt the religious sentiments by their Ravana-Sita dance act in TV show 'Ek Haseena Ek Khiladi' telecast by 'Colors' channel in October last year.

They alleged that an offence under IPC sections 298 (hurting religious sentiments) and 120-B (conspiracy) was made out against them.

Soon after the controversy, the cricketer had tendered an apology for playing 'Ravana' in the TV show and vowed not to repeat such actions, which may hurt the religious sentiments of any community.

At that time, the petitioner NGO had claimed that in view of the cricketer's apology an application would be moved seeking withdrawal of his name from the complaint but the matter against Mona and the channel would continue.

However, Thakur has now said that the matter against Harbhajan had not ended since he had "declined to come to court to apologise."

Wow... by Raj on 05 Feb 2009

Funny.. This is the same Judicial system where they do not have time to resolve serious crimes like murder and robbery but are able to waste court time on this kind of rubbish. The Advocate should be ashamed of this and so should the VHP.

SRI RAMA SENA SHOULD TAKE A LESSON OR TWO TO SILLY GOAT BHAJJI. by Ravi on 05 Feb 2009

Bhajji is notorious for callous, incautious, senseless, reckless and loose behavior and this should not surprise any sensible people. He is a mindless dud to sense how offensive, distasteful and disgusting is it to stage such a show. ALL THIS ARE THE ILL-EFFECTS OF PUB CULTURE. I THINK SRI RAMA SENA SHOULD TAKE A LESSON OR TWO TO SILLY GOAT BHAJJI.

You idiots by Rajan G on 05 Feb 2009

Why is it that Indians who are leading in any field are either from outside the country or a very few who are inside are being harassed (read Bhajji). These mindless morons who can't do anything themselves keep on ranting about protecting Indian culture. Do they know anything about classical music or dances. Anything about the vedic or post-vedic philosophies. Who the hell are these people to declare themselves the protector of Indian culture. Just because they don't have a girlfriend they come out on streets to protest 'pub culture' and then molest the girls themselves. India will be protected if these people were made to walk right upto Mumbai and continue walking west.

Ravana and Seetha dance by Bajji by Shivanand on 05 Feb 2009

Yes, This is an example of misuse of constitutional freedom and fame, one enjoying in India. In the name freedom they are raping Indian Culture. These people have no right to mock at Indian Culture. If they want to show case their freedom, let them use their own family, relatives and friends for this purpose.
