Indore, July 6: Curfew in the riot-hit areas in Indore were relaxed for two hours on the third day since its implementation with only women allowed to come out of their houses to buy essential items.

District Magistrate Rakesh Srivastava, however, described the situation as normal and peaceful as no untoward incident has taken place from anywhere in the city.

He said curfew was relaxed in areas under 13 police stations out of the total 27 in the city from 7 am to 9 am and only women were allowed to come out of their houses to buy necessary items.

Khajrana, Pandharinath, Malharganj and Chhatripura police stations, where communal violence started on July 3, were among the areas where curfew was relaxed, he said.

During the curfew relaxation, he said efforts were made to supply essential goods to people including vegetables, milk, water and foodgrains.

The city administration has ordered three hours of curfew relaxation in 11 police stations yesterday.

Curfew was imposed on July 3 after six persons were killed during communal violence on July 3 and 4 following the BJP's bandh call in protest against Jammu and Kashmir Government's decision to revoke allotment of land to the Amarnath shrine board.
