Lok Sabha

New Delhi It will be curtains down this week for the 14th Lok Sabha, which will go down in history as one which set several dubious records that Parliamentarians and people would like to forget.

Different from Lok Sabhas which preceded it, the House witnessed as many as 11 expulsions of members, unprecedented in the Parliamentary history.

Another low was the 'cash-for-votes' scam when some BJP members displayed bundles of currency notes in the House alleging they were offered huge sums of money to help the Government secure the trust vote on July 22 last year in the wake of the crisis over the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Besides, it saw an 'expulsion' of a different kind. Speaker Somnath Chatterjee was expelled by the CPI (M) last year after he ‘refused’ to resign from the high office in the wake of the Left parties withdrawing support to the Congress-led coalition.

Chatterjee, the first Left leader to adorn the high office, was also a target of attack from his party prompting him to remark that "this is the worst period of my life".

Incidentally, the Opposition boycotted the Speaker for a day in the House, which was also perhaps an unprecedented development.

LOK SABHA by Vaid S C K on 23 Feb 2009

IT IS HIGH TIME FOR ELECTION COMMISSION TO SERIOUSLY LOOK INTO PERFORMANCE OF 14TH LOK SABHA AND TAKE IMMEDIATE MEASURES TO INSTILL CONFIDENCE IN THE VOTERS WHO ARE GOING TO ELECT NEXT LOK SABHA. LITTLE HOPE FROM E.C. AS IT HAS BECOME SUBSIDIARY OF RULING PARTY.

QUALITY OF THE POLITICIANS by Niranjan on 23 Feb 2009

IT GOES TO SHOW THAT QUALITY OF OUR POLITICIANS IS GRADUALLY DETERIORATING AND SOON WE WILL HAVE PARLIAMENT AND LEGISLATURES FULL OF CRIMINALS AND CONVICTS. TOO BAD THESE UNSAVOURY PEOPLE HAVE LEARNED HOW TO WIN ELECTIONS AND THEN HOW TO MILK THE COUNTRY AND BECOME BILLIONAIRES OVERNIGHT. TIME FOR ACTION IS NOW. IF THE POWERS WHO CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT DO NOT ACT NOW, THE COUNTRY WILL BE UNLIVABLE FOR THE AAM AADMI AND WE WILL BE ONLY A FOURTH WORLD COUNTRY IN THE EYES OF THE WORLD.

QUALITY OF OUR MPs by Niranjan on 23 Feb 2009

IT GOES TO SHOW THAT QUALITY OF OUR POLITICIANS IS GOING DOWN GRADUALLY. AT THIS RATE, SOON THERE WILL BE ALL THE CRIMINALS AND CONVICTS AND ROWDIES IN THE AUGUST PARLIAMENT. TOO BAD THAT THESE UNSAVOURY PEOPLE HAVE LEARNED HOW TO WIN ELECTIONS AND THEN HOW TO MILK THE SYSTEM AND BECOME MULTI-MILLIONAIRES OVERNIGHT. SOLUTION MIGHT BE HARSH AND UNACCEPTABLE TO MANY PEOPLE, BUT IF WE DO NOT ACT NOW, THE COUNTRY WILL BE UNLIVABLE FOR THE AAM AADMI AND IN THE EYES OF THE WORLD WE WILL BE A FOURTH WORLD COUNTRY.

Look Sabha by Tabeer Taanku on 23 Feb 2009

The ruling coalition and Speaker's arogant attitude has been the root cause of all the troubles in 14th Lok Sabha. Speaker hardly gives equal opportunity to opposition members for raising their burning issues. Anyway its all about a circus
