Customised admit cards to make exam schedule simple for CU students

Kolkata, February 24 The Calcutta University will issue customised admit cards to students, which will carry the schedule of the examination, besides regular features like roll number and other important information.

The new admit cards will be given to students of the Part III examination — conducted by the university under the 1+1+1 system — which is beginning from April 18.

“The university receives complaints of students missing out examinations as they are not sure when and where the examinations are scheduled to be held,” said Onkar Sadhan Adhikari, the controller of examinations, Calcutta University.

The additional information that the university is planning to give the students will, however, increase the size of the cards, as they will now be printed on an A4 paper.

On the top section of the admit card, details of the candidate, along with the photograph and signature will be inscribed.

On the bottom half of the admit card the details of the subjects in which the student has to appear will be inscribed. In case a candidate is repeating the examination, only the subjects that he/she is appearing will be on the admit card.

“We cannot print the entire examination schedule as that would not fit into the paper. Moreover, it will not serve the purpose of resolving the confusion,” said Debasish Biswas, the deputy controller of examinations.

He also cited difficulty in customising the admit card for every student. Over one lakh students enrol in the undergraduate level of the university each year. “With a large number of students appearing for the examinations that are conducted in two shifts — morning and afternoon — such problem arise,” said Deepak Ranjan Mondal, principal of Bidhanagar College.
