Ludhiana Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class XII topper Prabhjot Kaur has taken the first step towards becoming a fashion designer. Devki Devi Jain Memorial College in Kidwai Nagar has given her admission in BA-I course without charging any fee.

Harjeet Singh, father of Prabhjot Kaur, said, “The college did not charge any fee from us. The college authorities have also promised us that if her performance remains good, they would continue with the freeship in the next year as well.”

Prabhjot said, “I want to pursue a diploma in fashion designing from the National Institute of Fashion Designing at Focal Point. It is three-year course. The fee for the first semester is Rs 43,000 and every month Rs 5,000 is required to buy raw material. My father can not afford this much. My family has pinned its hopes on the district administration.”

It must be mentioned that on June 5, Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Vikas Garg had held a meeting with Prabhjot and forwarded her request letter to the state government.

Harjeet Singh, who relocated to the city from Saharanpur in the aftermath of the 1984 riots, said, “I have been trying to contact officers of district administration to know about the progress in the case but in vain. We got a letter of appreciation from Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal. I have sought financial help from him too.”
