They demanded the immediate ouster of Ghisingh as the caretaker chairman of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC).
A seven-member team, led by DGJM leader Roshan Giri, held at meeting with Chief Secretary Amit Kiran Deb and Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Roy for over an hour.
Divisional officer of the Jalpaiguri division and the Darjeeling district magistrate were also present.
“The state government’s pact with Ghisingh, allowing him to function as DGHC’s caretaker chairman, has no public support. We do not accept such an agreement,” said Giri.
The delegation demanded that a competent IAS officer be instated at the post.
Giri alleged that Ghisingh had done nothing while holding the top-post.
“He cannot shape Darjeeling’s future any more as he does not enjoy any public support,” Giri said.
The delegation also demanded the scrapping of the proposal to bring Darjeeling under the Sixth Schedule.
“The state government has asked us for some time to consider our demands. There is an ongoing hungerstrike in Darjeeling on these issues. If our demands are not fulfilled, then it will lead to an even bigger stir,” Giri said.
