Gurgaon, March 12 In a bid to make residents environmentally conscious and use less energy, the Haryana government has launched another promotional scheme for the switch from incandescent lighting to CFLs.

On Wednesday, the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) announced a lucky draw scheme for consumers who deposit dysfunctional electrical equipment, especially CFLs, with the DHBVN for proper disposal.

According to a DHBVN spokesperson, this scheme will help reduce energy consumption and also the perpetual power crisis in Gurgaon: “As conventional incandescent bulbs consume 70 to 80 per cent more than CFLs, the Nigam is promoting the conversion from bulbs to CFLs. It is also aware that the mercury content in CFLs is higher and thus requires proper disposal.”

The DHVBN will issue receipts with unique numbers against each CFL, incandescent bulb, old motor/pump etc deposited by consumers. Lucky draws will be conducted at headquarters upon the collection of a specific number of bulbs.

According to Electricity department officials, “This is a motivational scheme to make residents move from normal incandescent bulbs to CFLs and at the same time, ensure that less pollutants are released in the environment.”

Forms for participating in the lucky draws are already available at the DHBVN’s customer care centres and the offices of assistant general managers (Operations).
