I remember that almost about 28 yrs ago, a distant relative was camping in Bangalore. When I asked him what work he had, he said he had to "manage" PSC members to ensure his brother got his appointment as Deputy Director, Agriculture..Finally it appears the deal was settled for Rs.3 lacs those days...when he told me this, I was surprised and told him it is a lot of money, how does he think he can make it up...he laughed and told me "you dont know about Government Service...DD,Agri manages the district and the budget is about Rs.3 Crores....even if he manages to rake in 1% we will get our money back...but in the normal course it is atleast 10%...though it has got to be shared with others we will get more than what we had "invested" to get him the job....even before one enters government service the calculation is how much they can make....what a sorry state of affairs....nothing in Government, even the appointment of a Chaprasi, is done without some money changing hands....disgusting..
