Srinagar, Uttarakhand, October 21: Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday lamented that he has not got ‘justice’ even 17 years after his father Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, a reference to the death sentence given to some of those convicted in the case, which is yet to be executed.

"My father was a Prime Minister. My grand mother was also a Prime Minister, but I did not get justice. My father was killed by a bomb. Forty people were involved. It has taken 17 years, but still there has been no punishment," he told students of the H N Bahuguna University in this hill state.

He was asked why Parliament attack accused Afzal Guru has not yet been hanged.

"The issue is not why Afzal is not being hanged. Our legal system is very slow," said the Congress general secretary.

He blamed the ‘slow’ Indian legal system for that but said he had ‘full faith’ in the judiciary and had no complaints about it.

The Congress MP said he never complained why his father's killers were not hanged. "I believe in the legal system of the country. I will get justice but it will take time."

Rahul Gandhi by Sanjana on 22 Oct 2008

I hope he atleast now understands the state of Men's Justice in India The Men responsible for this Grandmother's death were punished, while exactly opposite the Woman involved in Father's death may probably be released. This is the same story of every Indian Guy on whom Women have been filing false cases for selfish motives, even if proved to be a misuse they are not punished. I hope you read this message and try to atleast get the law amended so that the misusers are penalised. There are 10s of 1000s of Indian Men whose lives are ruined due to not getting justice and Fathers who are forced by the judges to keep away from their children and all these men are fighting for justice knowing fully Indian courts will never give them justice also what a waste to Manpower and Brain power is it to the country?

Rahul Gandhi by A R Prabhakar on 22 Oct 2008

He is right.Mrs Indira Gandhi was assisinated by people infront of every one yet it took 13 long years.Slow and steady wins the race but inrelation yo justice it is said " justice delayed is justice denied". Think every one and let Rahul off by not asking such such oersonal questions which hurt,

Justice for Rahul ? by MSGHARAT on 22 Oct 2008

What an immature state made by someone who is potrayed as the future PM. God save India if we are going to have him as PM. His party has been ruling the country most of the 60 years. He is questioning the judiciary system. He is question the efficiency of his own party. He is telling us that his government is impotent. What does he think about the 3000 Sikhs killed after Indira Gandhi was killed. They have not yet got justice even after 25 years. I am sure 3000 ordinary Indian lives mean nothing to him. Why does he not raise a voice and say they should be given justice ? What has his party done to his state, It is one of the most backward states, his Party have many PMs, Presidents, Ministers from that state, still why is that state backward ? Why are people migrating to other states ? Why doesn't' UP politicians say that they will develop it so that no one will have to migrate. They have to move to other states to earn.

Its hilarious when Rahul gandhi says this by Saurabh Agarwal on 22 Oct 2008

I wonder what Rahul gandhi mean by this statement. First of all your party is in power from the day we got independence (leaving some years of other parties), and therefore any shortcomes that prevailed in India is entirely your respomsibility and if u say that you didnt got justice and system is slow than your party should accept that it is not fit for administration as it can not give us a effecient systen in 60 years. And seconly whome did Priyanka Gandhi went to meet in jail, if the crimnals are not caught. Think before u speak because anything good or bad in Indian system has some linkage with congress.

Rahul gandhi's dad's justice by navien on 22 Oct 2008

Of course Rahul Gandhi got justice for his DAD'S killing. He is talking rubbish. It’s just that for garnering votes, his sister went to meet the lady in jail - and to garner votes the insane Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, released her. It must be remembered that Karunanidi is a partner of the Congress in the Coalition in the Center. Let us also not forget, that the UPA government is being forced (By Karunanidhi) to protest to Sri Lanka, in favour of the LTTE - a Terrorist outfit

I didn’t get justice: Rahul by zaheer on 22 Oct 2008

Yes Rahul baba did not get justice but look at the fate of thousands of people getting killed at fake encounters of police and loot at the plight of backwars, tribals and minorities who are victims of police excesses and high caste atrocities .We need a quick justice system in india

Rahul's immaturity by Subramanian on 22 Oct 2008

The justice is already awarded for killing Rajiv Gandhi. But his daughter Priyanka went and met the collaborator of the crime. Now his son, Rahul cries that justice is not delivered! What a shame! Rahul does not see the difference between the question of hanging Afsal and prosecuting LTTE prabhakaran. While in Afsal case, the justice is already delivered, the congress regime is sitting on that fearing 'muslim vote' (this is one of the reasons why we start to hate Muslims). One more immature statement from Rahul.

Dad killed in bomb............ by Prof . R.G.JANI . on 22 Oct 2008

Rahul forgets intentionaly that , he has been given highest security in his school days.We ask him that what kind of the tertment is given to those boys whose father dided by teroririst. Simply being a high family member he can speak in this way . India has given MORE THAN IT CAN OFFERD TO THIS SO CALLED INDIAN FAMILY .

vote bank politics by ashok pai on 22 Oct 2008

everyone and his neighbor knows that this is pure bull. vote bank politics is the primary reason for afzal guru not getting his due.by invoking his father's name rahul wants to evoke sympathy, a master stroke by schemers, after all its those poll wizards and psychologists at work just before elections

Wrong priorities by Sikkandar on 22 Oct 2008

The Structure built for worship by Baber was demolished 17 years ago too and caused the killings, injuries and misery to thousands of minorities. What justice has been done to the victims? Has the Indian Govt. arrested the culprits whose identities are known from Videos taken. Who were the people who planned, organised and executed the demolition? How many of them hold senior position in political parties? What has Liberhan Commission done for the past 17 years? Is there any country in the world where a high level judicial committee has taken 17 years to submit its report on the tragedy that happened to the minorities? It had its 48th extension a few months ago?! India is losing its morals and will face the wrath of the Bagwan. We have wrong priorities and a wrong system of democracy

politics by ramsubbu on 22 Oct 2008

Being most important and protected citizen of the country, instead of thinking of his fathershould also consider the ordinary citizens of the country. What we require is the bold steps to remove the cob webs in the admistration and not sermans. The steps taken by his father had shaken he country and brought new young leaders wanting to improve the country. Rahul should come forward and bring new leaders with chnged ideas instead of present netas who talk on caste, religion, region etc to improve their own position.

KICK OUT DR. RAMDAS PARTY FIRST by Irai Achan on 22 Oct 2008

Justice delayed is justice denied. We have developed the technology to send man to the moon but miserably failed to develop a good judicial system. The failure to bring the Master Planners behind Rajiv Gandhi's assassination falls not on the Judiciary but on the rulers in Delhi. We boast that India is a regional superpower. But such a superpower should have invaded Sri Lanka and caught the arch-terrorist Prabakaran and other king pins who were the people behind Rajiv's cruel death. Imagine if an American president was assassinated in a foreign country, what would have been the consequences? We are cowards when dealing with the perpetrators of terrorism and LTTE is a huge terrorist organisation, it has been listed as a foreign terrorist orgn for 11 years by the USA, but a a tiny little TN party guy says LTTE is not a terrorist orgn, and the congress sleeps with him, it has guts to tell him to get out of the alliance. Why is Congress afraid of Dr. Ramadas? Power Hungry?

Laugh it out slowly by Devendra Patel on 22 Oct 2008

Whether to laugh or ignore this comment from an Innocent boy from a simple first family or a political comment to project himself as a victim son to get sympathy ahead of election.

Rajiv Gandhi by K. Shah on 22 Oct 2008

RAjiv was a good PM. I liked him. I wish he limited India to diplomatic nad religious leaders led dialogf between SL Govt and LTTE. It was a very big mistake by Tamil Tigers to kill him. As you can see, violence has not solved their problems. I wish, the very brilliant Tamils learned from the Jews as to how to prosper even in the most adverse circumstances. On the other hand, it is high time to end Nehru and Gandhi Dynesty in politics. Rahul, do something else to earn your living.

What about others who have denied justice by appointments of corrupt politicians! by Banwarilal Ghashyam on 22 Oct 2008

One has to agree fully with revelations by Ommrigar domments. The errosion in moral and ethical values of the entire society of the Nation at all levels is the out come f was no avourtisim, nepotisim and corruption practiced by Nehru aznd Gandhi clan as the person who could have controlled this erosion namelt Mahatma Gandhi died .It is because of this many have been denied justice and are being denied justice in the name of Mhatma Gandhi.Let the heir apperant do research in this instead lamenting and shedding crockodile tears.

Rahul, the reformer by V. Ramanathan on 22 Oct 2008

Rahul"s comments are surprising; the death sentence of afsal guru, rajivji's killers is no9t with the court, their mercy petition is with the UPA govt under his mother. he can request his mother to advise the President to reject the applications. his statement against the old raja system where the son inhewrits the kingdom is wonderful indeed; his friends and himself (he was not in India whenhis fahter was killed) can now get out of politics and continue doing whatever he and his congres young MPs were doing erlier. the iompeachment of a corrupt HC judge was sabotaged by his party only earlier when they were in the opposition. he cannot put the blame on the judiciary for delay. the augean stables of dirty politics has to be cleaned, let him do it, if he wants to serve his country.

No Justice for Rahul? by Rohit Singh on 22 Oct 2008

Rahul ji, please ask your mother about not getting this justice you are talking about. Your party is ruling the country with the support of people who were involved with his murder. The conspiracy may have started with some of Gandhi family friends itself if you go into the details. Sorry about your father Rahul. He was a gentelman and good human being.

Rahul Gandhi's lament by Adishankar on 22 Oct 2008

In this case it is not the Legal system but the political compulsions of Congress to be blamed. Congress cannot dare punishing Rajiv' assassins with DMK calling the shots. Nor can Guru be hanged thanks to vot bank politics

didn’t get justice: Rahul by kumar on 22 Oct 2008

Poor Rahul ..... like St Stephen's, asking a question is also not perceived good in congress..... but, sure, you can ask mom ...

Indira by Puja on 22 Oct 2008

To Chandran's post - his grandmother was no simpleton. She was a bvery difficult person, under whose rule many stupid things were done. Nationalisation of a number of industries - banking, insurance, coal mining, airlines was done during her tenure. Today we are trying to reverse all these stupid decisions. Indira Gandhi was most detrimental to this country and she had a closed mind.

give justice to sikhs by aparna on 22 Oct 2008

Rahul Baba. How about justice for families of sikhs that were butchered by your papa's supporters

Dad was killed.. by Dr. A. Kumar, England on 22 Oct 2008

Sure, some aggrived chap is deanding justice. But can you not think of justice demanded by victims of Sikh massacre following Indira Gandhi assisination? Dad was incharge then, Mum is incharge now. Do the justice first, then demand justice. Punish those responsible for Sikh massacre first in your party, then ask for justice and punishment for your dad's killers.

Indian Legal system by Sai on 22 Oct 2008

Parliament has responsibilty to amend the laws. It is in congress hands most of the time. Whom to be blamed now?

More justice wrt to other blast victims by asha on 22 Oct 2008

His mother gets to weild absolute power without responsibility, his sister and her family live at tax payers expense, he gets elected as an MP and travels around the world - I would say compared to other blast victims, his family has done extraordiarily well.

Rahul asking for revenge by Anandakumar on 21 Oct 2008

There is a difference between punishment and revenge. You punish someone so that they will not do it again. Rajiv Gandhi was killed because of political reasons, sending in IPKF into Tamil land. The killers were mere tools. I sincerely believe they will not do it again if asked to do so and have repented. Afzal Guru is an unrepented terrorist who will kill more because of his ideology. If Rahul wants these tools to be hanged, then hes asking for revenge. Death Punishment is state sponsored violence. Sonia and Priyanka should counsel him and change his views before he becomes PM and goes after revenge.
