Srinagar, Uttarakhand, October 21: Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday lamented that he has not got ‘justice’ even 17 years after his father Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, a reference to the death sentence given to some of those convicted in the case, which is yet to be executed.

"My father was a Prime Minister. My grand mother was also a Prime Minister, but I did not get justice. My father was killed by a bomb. Forty people were involved. It has taken 17 years, but still there has been no punishment," he told students of the H N Bahuguna University in this hill state.

He was asked why Parliament attack accused Afzal Guru has not yet been hanged.

"The issue is not why Afzal is not being hanged. Our legal system is very slow," said the Congress general secretary.

He blamed the ‘slow’ Indian legal system for that but said he had ‘full faith’ in the judiciary and had no complaints about it.

The Congress MP said he never complained why his father's killers were not hanged. "I believe in the legal system of the country. I will get justice but it will take time."

Chemistry by Dr Shailendra Singh on 21 Oct 2008

I agree you didnt get justice. But what about those 30 people who died long with your father. Did their family get anything? Your mother became UPA chief, You are the projected PM candidate by Mr Arjun Singh, Your sister is meeting with Nalini. A good number of instituions have been found in your fathers name, Is there a single institution as a symbol of remembrance of those 30 people? Have ever thought about livelihood of their family. Lets stop this and please fight for equality and justice for poor and needy.

What a shame on this man by ithin on 21 Oct 2008

This man is not even matured enough to understand even his families role in saving the killers of his own father for votes. This guy time and again proving he is a mere fool and not qualified to stay anywhere near the PM's chair.

why did his mother pardon nalini? by pardon on 21 Oct 2008

seems like that plan failed. Now rahul needs to ask her mother. how many deserving people are not given MP and MLA ticket by fraud mafia of congress.

Rahul's memory loss by Anurag on 21 Oct 2008

Seems like Rahul is trying to get symapthy votes now, like Rajiv Gandhi did. I am surprised that no reporters, who otherwise latch onto anti-Modi, anti-BJP, anti_Gujarat news, ask him that in case of Afzal Guru the judicial process was not slow. The Supreme court has already given its judgement; it is the UPA government which is sitting on the matter due to its communal agenda. And if Rahul himself accepts that he didnot get justice after 17 years, shouldnt he be reminded that it is actually the failure of his "dynasty" because they ruled india for 42 years during her 61 year old independent history, and that for 14 years non-Gandhi prime ministers from the congress or from parties supported by the congress were ruling. And of course, his mother and sister said that they have "forgiven" the killers. Seems to me like another attempt by the Gandhis to try and emotionalize voters and make them forget about Congress's bad track record.

Dad was killed by a bomb, I didn’t get justice: Rahul by Derek on 21 Oct 2008

Rahul, if a person of your background finds it so hard to get justice, can you imagine what it is like for the common man?

He cannot blame the judiciary by Giri on 21 Oct 2008

Rahul can't blame the judiciary for the delay. Rajiv Gandhi's assassination case was one of the relatively fast cases to come to a closure. The case was conducted in the fairest manner possible and the verdict was fair, just, clear and unambiguous. Firstly his mother was willing to waive the death penalty on Nalini. Then the death sentences on the others have been put on hold indefinitely. All these reasons are political and have nothing to do with the judicial process. If there is political will to carry out the death sentence all the guilty would have been punished by now. The same goes for Afzal Guru too. I'm a Tamil and I believe that the Rajiv Gandhi assassination convicts deserve to be punished now. I fully well understand that the Congress doesn't have the political will and will never get it. So the status quo will continue. The problem is not with the judiciary but with the political leadership. Rahul is trying to pass the buck and its not right.

cunningness beyond limits by romesh.sharma on 21 Oct 2008

What kind of justice he is looking for?Hey, Rajiv Gandhi was your father and PM of the country but one indivisual while attack on Parliament was attack on mother India, the Nation, and why the hell Congress doesn't hang Afzal Guru who is confirmed responsible for that crime.By the way where you were and what were you doing during that period?Busy in romance and drugs in Columbia?Till then your mother didn't even liked to be Indian and kept her Italian Nationality and the same was with you and your sister. With such cunning tricks winning sympathy is cheapest and low standards ofcharcter and morality.

Rajiv Death by D.A.Eswar on 21 Oct 2008

Rahul cannot equate Prabhakaran of LTTE whom Indian Govt. could not catch with Afzal Guru in Parlaiment attack. Afzal is caught and Supreme Court awarded Death sentence. It is his mother Sonia and Congress in UPA Govt. dont want to decide in hanging. Why should he blame judiciary ? Rahul doesnot give sympathy as Public knows actual position of terrorism and UPA Govt. support to terrorists for getting votes in election

rubish talking - please stop by Antina on 21 Oct 2008

This guy Rahul makes some rubbish comment from time to time to receive sympathy from people - to show that he is close to the rest of the indian citizens who are deprived justice every now and then.

Dad was killed by a bomb, I didn’t get justice: Rahul by pandurang on 21 Oct 2008

is he not aware that his own mother and daughter are bent on setting his father's killer free ?

Dad was killed by a bomb, I didn’t get justice: Rahul by Rajendra PAtel on 21 Oct 2008

Why he is blaming the legal system??? His own party Government delaying the execution of Afzal. And who is more responsible to bring legal system to this dire state non other than your own family members from Jawaharlal to Indira Gandhi and rajiv Gandhi to Rahu gandhi himself.

Justice delayed is justice denied by Eswar on 21 Oct 2008

Rahuls lamentation on Rajeevs death and the injustice meted out sound rediculous and childish. This choclate boy despite his age is pretending to be simple and naive to hoodwink the illeterate and poor electorate as election is round the corner.Whom he is blaming when it is his own party was in power for more than 50 yrs and still not able to reform the judiciary to expedite the justice? may be the poor village folks or the curious school girls and childrens enamoured by his charm will get confused and believe his story ,but the average electorate can see thru his game .Let him not be under the impression that the entire Indian population is totally ignorant or fools to sympathise with him.If he is genuinely concerned with his fathers death and the justice being denied ,he can request his mother who is the running the govt with remote control to influence the judiciary to hasten the whole proceedings. But the pity is his mother and sister are suggesting to pardon the accused.

Rahul - Time to think by K Malmarugan on 21 Oct 2008

Rahul should also think about justice for thousands of Tamils in Sri Lanka killed by Sinhala goons and IPKF. He should also think about why his mothers slave, Shri Manmohan Singh is aiding and abetting the Sinhala blood thirsty regime of Rajapakse. His family would suffer more and more as all Tamils in the world curse them.

moron talk by sarma on 21 Oct 2008

what rotten he speaks. legal system is perfect only political interference is not needed. afzal guru is not hanged because as per shivraj patil we cant ask pak sarabjeet singh a case of mistaken identity by hanging afzal. rahul is not moron to speak nonsense, or the people surounding must be morons. The gift of UPA to the nation is help the terorrists, uplift the stupids at the cost of taxpayers money and kill the citizons indirectly. with his mother steping to release nalini how can the legal system will go forward.by asking rahul such stupid questions we are making ourselves mindless.after all he is our future PM.

Nehru family is solely responsible for the lawlessness of India: by Dr. Ramesh on 21 Oct 2008

The killing of Indira and Rajiv were just consequences of what they did not do which they were supposed to do. They did not nourish the law and order system, rather created the law and order problem so that they can manipulate the people's mandate in order to remain in the power. They knowingly encouraged corruption so that they can produce vote fetching delegates, fund party and themselves from the commissions. They exactly got what they deserved. All persons hovering around a congressi politician, hover due to illicit self-interest, in the hope that some public money will be transferred to them in the form of contract or other issues compromising the standard terms and conditions. Nehru family is solely responsible for the lawlessness of India. They deserve appropriate punishment for all their negligence, crimes and encouragement of lawlessness. Unfortunately, even after two killings, this family not yet understood that sometimes you fall too when you dig graves for others.

Dad was killed by a bomb, I didn’t get justice: Rahul by Rambabu on 21 Oct 2008

It is true the legal system in this country is hopeless. If one has to wait for decades to get justice then why should one should have faith in it? God save this country!

No Justice by Sastha Prakash on 21 Oct 2008

Is it not sufficient that enough number of people are still languishing in the jails. One hand these leaders talk about abolishing death penalty, but when it comes to their own kin they want justice to be done. I would say this hypocrisy should stop and Mr Rahul Gandhi should have the heart to forgive and forget these perpetrators. Every job comes with its own hazard and to be prepared is what is required.

RAHULS PREDICAMENT AND CONTADICTIONS by manish on 21 Oct 2008

mr.rahul, when you would be pm of india try to get the judiciary very fast so that the criminals would be hanged.if your party, your mother your pm couldnot do in the last five years of your party rule why are you lamenting.it is the prerogative of your party to distance from the killlers of your dad.you very well know that the LTTE is involved and conspit=red to kill your dad,but the party on whose support your govt is standing want taht the ltte would be supported when the sl army is liquidating ltte.it is highly contradictory.

above by janney on 21 Oct 2008

If the rulers say that they have not got the justice then can you imagine the common man plight. The congress has ruled this country for 50 years but no improvement in judicial system or they wanted that way only for political gain.

Blame the politican first by Karze on 21 Oct 2008

Its politicians who are to be blamed first for everything that is going wrong in India. No wonder even peon are boldly asking for money to do the work for which they are paid by the government. As for Rahul's comment - congress has ruled the India for most of the last 17 years not to mention the last 60 years since independence.

Sympathi Vote bank Politics by Prasad on 21 Oct 2008

Yes, your are true. I think Raul wants the same sympathi what Congress got after Mr.Rajiv Gandhi's assanation. It is not the legal system is slow. It is due to the vote bank and power politics which making slow in executing the judgment. Better some one should tell Raul Gandhi that judgment is already given, it is her own party is holding the execution. Even Prathibha Patil will not be knowing where the files for her approval were, because all those were kept at the custody of Higher President Sonia Gandhi.

The Poor Gandhi's by Chandran Nair on 21 Oct 2008

This poor Congress secretary is more of a simpleton than 'Jagte Raho's' Raj. He is totally unaware of the ways of this country, which has treated him shabbily. He is simple, his father was simple, his grandma was simple... it is one whole simple family. we, the Indians are complex sadists and villains. So, at least for now, make him the Prime Minister.

Little past history of the family would have helped the heir. by J. K. Oomrigar on 21 Oct 2008

Rahul would not have had to lament he failed to get justice from insipid juddiciary of the country.A little reasearch by this tech.savy he would have found that his granmother had been solely responsible for appointing and nominating her yes judges in the Apex and Other High Courts for securing judgments favorable to perpegrating her rule and his father followed the same practice and his mother helping in this.Had he done his job he would have certainly blamed the culprits and not the judiciary.

Dad was killed I by bomb, did not get justice: Rahul by auronan on 21 Oct 2008

While his mother has already said that she would excuse the killers and her sister has met the convicted person in the jail, this comment is surprising.
