Washington Amid objections raised by China over the Dalai Lama's visit to Arunachal Pradesh, United States has said the Tibetan spiritual leader has the right to visit wherever he wants to and talk to people.

"The Dalai Lama is primarily an internationally respected religious figure. And he, of course, has the right to go wherever he wants and talk to people that he chooses to talk to," State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said yesterday.

On being asked about US position on the Dalai Lama's visit to Arunachal Pradesh, which is claimed by China as a disputed territory and contested by New Delhi as an integral part of India, Kelly said, "We just don't see it in any other way than that. We don't think we have a position, necessarily, on his decision to travel to this area."

Last week, a top US official had also supported the Dalai Lama's visit to Arunachal Pradesh saying he was free to go anywhere as a religious figure.

"The Dalai Lama is a religious leader and he, of course, can travel to carry out that role," US Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Maria Otero had told journalists in New Delhi.

China's secular stand supports Congress party's policies against Communal Hindus and Buddhists by Maulana Jawaher Lull Nehlu on 11 Nov 2009

Kudos to China for supporting the secular cause of brother Communists/Maowadies, Saintly Christians of North East, and their all weather friends the Muslims of Pakistan and Bonglades. These noble forces of secularism will always prevail over communal Hindus, and as ChudamBuram has said, it is the duty of Hindus to protect Muslims Maowadies and Christians so they can fully remove the communal Hindus. China by this statement has now openly supported the secular cause of Congress and will help Congress further by liberating Arunachal from Hindu/Buddhist and help to convert it fully into Christian/Communist/Muslim.

Nuanced words from US diplomat needs careful reading of tea leaves by N J Ramesh on 11 Nov 2009

This non-commital statement by US is not suprising. So far the new US Administration has refrained from taking any position on Tibet which may hurt Chinese sentiments. The stakes involved for US-China relationship, be it economic equations, climate treaty and a host of political issues including Iran, N Korea and Pakistan are much too high for US to perturb the finely tuned balance. The only long term realistic Indian option to counter China is build trustworthy relationships within SAARC, particularly with Pakistan. This alone would be consistent with Indian non-alignment policy and provide for realistic coping with strategic security threats emerging from global arena. A strategic architecture with developed democracies makes sense only after SAARC security framework is in place.

Boycott Chinease made goods to teach China a lesson by Rakesh K Sharma on 11 Nov 2009

China has started flexing its muscles all over the world. US Businessmen have made one mistake. They have China economically successful. In order to teach China a lesson, people all over the world need to boycott Chinease made goods. China mafia uses slave labor to produce cheap products, and no one has been able to stop them. 90% people in China are suffering. And China wants to dictate things to others. China must not forget that any misadventure like 1962 will be met with huge strike that may put China 50 years behind.

Dalai Lama has right to visit wherever he wants to: US by Chand Kumar Shukla on 10 Nov 2009

The U.S. view on this matter must be ignored (either way), they are playing games. President Obama refused to meet his Holiness the Dalai Lama, while President Bush a man of guts always respected His Holiness. Experts will tell you that the powerful Jewish Lobby has strong ties with Communist China (this must never be ignored) and President Obama is strongly influenced by the former. As time does not stay still and 2009 is not 1962, thus India has not worry about the Chinese militarily, yet we must stay catious and continue to arm and expand our armed forces further.

Does CHINA ever object to the POPE's travels? by Raj on 10 Nov 2009

The POPE is at liberty to travel the world to meet with Christians. POPE John Paul had visited several Communist countries. Democratic countries like the US, UK, INDIA never objected to the POPE's visits. Isn't it ironic that COMMUNIST CHINA is whining in the global media about the Dalai Lama's travel to Arunachal, JAPAN etc. The Dalai Lama is the spiritual head of the Buddhists worldwide he should be revered and provided full protection wherever he travels. STOP CHINA from Bullying!!

Chinese Strong Displeasure by Sane Voice on 10 Nov 2009

Who in hell is China to show pleasure or displeasure on Indian internal affairs. China should simply shut up and mind her own business. Indian goverment should show very strong displeasure on Chinese meddling in India. Indian goverment should not be scared of paper tiger and stand up for their country. Chinese meddle enough in Pakistan and through Pakistan in India. It is time to tell China to get lost.

Let us be concerned about our position by Ramesh Rangarajan on 10 Nov 2009

China thinks Dalai Lama instigates violence, which the world knows not true. China wants to get rid off even a single iota of opposition to its Tibet occupation. Since Dalai Lama has taken refuge here, China is engaged in all these activities against India. Present U.S government would bow to China as we know recently Obama declined to meet Dalai Lama, wheh the Dalai came to the U.S. Also, U.S media say Dalai Lama visits the disputed territory claimed by China and never would say it is an Indian State. So, we have to be concerned about ourselves and take care and can't expect the international community would help us not only on this but for any such matter. More tactical playing by foreign affairs and diplomatic lobbying is needed by Indian embassies abroad, apart from the motto of making money.

The media Should have been allowed by Emil George on 10 Nov 2009

The world media should have been allowed to cover the historic visit of the Dalai Lama to Arunachal Pradesh. Why do we have to put these restrictions on a man who is our guest, traveling to an integral part of our country?

BULL IN CHINA.-CLOSET by Jatinder S Hoon on 10 Nov 2009

INDIA HAS EVRY RIGHT TO ALLOW OR DISALLOW ANY BODY VISITING THE COUNTRY.THE DALAI LAMA BULL SURE HAS RATTLE THE GODLESS COUNTRY,CHINA TO ITS CORE.INDIA/U.S.A, BOTH ARE GOD FEARING AND SECULAR COUNTRIES AND THERE OPINION MATTER IN THE WORLD WHICH IS TORN APART BY JAHADIES AND ITS SUPPORTERS AND CHINA BEING THE NO-1 FAIR-WEATHER FRIEND OF THESE GOONS

Then again, how much to believe USA? by Karunakaran on 10 Nov 2009

I wonder for how long USA will stick to this stand, very soon, as the earlier experience goes, it may change any degree on this stand. Did they not work against Dalai Lama recently under Chinese pressure?

Right for a righteous by V.Chakravarthy on 10 Nov 2009

He has the right to go anywhere he wants and one should check their credibility before they make ridiculous statements. The chinese are absolutely trying to make a dirty scene of a noble visit.

India is India by Praveen on 10 Nov 2009

India is India and not China, therefore, China has no right to object to a visit by the spiritual leader to his follower. Wherever that follower may be. I am surprised by Chinese behavior. The Dalai Lama is a man of peace which is recognised by whole world. If only China knows about him one or two. they won't dare to call him liars. But then, who will believe China. Moreover, India is a democratic country , not a dictatorship like China. Here people themselves decide who to invite and people have every right to visit any part of the country. The Dalai lama too has that right.

Mr by K.Balakumaran on 10 Nov 2009

China is flexing its muscle by interfering in India's internal affairs. It is encircling India by supporting the regimes surrounded by India. Now it set foot in SriLanka also.India should get U.S and other western nations help in modernising its forces.or it will be in a position to be taken over and by supporting Maoist guerillas and terrorism in other states it will be divided into small nations. The centre should be ruled by strong leaders but unfortunately this is not the case now and there is a growing islamic threat posed by muslim minority which now refuses to sing "Vande matarm".Muslims live evrywhere like that, they only consider their own people and others are treated by them as dust.If they do not like to live and be loyal to India they should pack up and go through kyberpass.

Welcome Dalailam by S K Sahoo on 10 Nov 2009

Really it is a free and fair statement of USA. Every spiritual leader can move any corner of the world with spiritual matter and divine intension. No one or country to raise objection about the movement of such type of leader. Otherwise, man should not believe any religion.
