New Delhi For actor Irrfan Khan, 'Slumdog Millionaire' British director Danny Boyle is an artist beyond geographical limitations, one who has given Indian artistes and technicians their due credit.

"Danny Boyle is not a British for me. An artist is always above geographical boundaries and religious bindings," says Irrfan, who plays the role of a police officer in the film which has earned 10 Oscar nominations.

The actor said that earlier many production houses from abroad were permitted to shoot in India "but very few had the kind of faith Boyle had on the Indian technicians and artists.

"He (Boyle) gave us the main departments, probably for the first time we have an Indian co-director, and an Indian composer who has fetched more than one Oscar nomination," Irrfan said over phone from Mumbai.

The star confessed that he has become a 'Danny Boyle fan' after working with him in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.

Irrfan is jubilant about the A R Rahman getting three nominations for the Oscar and feels that "the Oscar this time is definitely in our bag".

However, the ‘Billo Barbar’ star is all geared up for a special programme 'India Celebrates' that he is about to host for FOX History and Entertainment on this Republic Day.

"In this programme we are trying to focus on some aspects like some rare compiled footage of 250 years of British rule in India," Irrfan says.

The special programme which will be telecast throughout the day on January 26 will also focus on five directors of Bollywood Vishal Bharadwaj, Farah Khan, Madhur Bandarkar, Sanjay Gadhvi and Kunal Kohli.

Irrfan was also optimistic that the youngsters will find the programme interesting as it is history mixed with entertainment.

"I am doing the programme for them (youngsters), I will try to make it as interesting as possible like someone telling a bedtime story," he said.

The 'Namesake' star who has earlier acted in serials like 'Chandrakanta' and hosted programmes like 'Mano Ya Na Mano' lamented that the content shown on television today is "not substantial."

"Although I am no authority to comment on it but the programmes on TV today have poor content like the daily soaps, there is a lot of manipulation, even news is one dimensional," he said.

outstanding movie by govi on 26 Jan 2009

He made a great movie. What more can India want? He made us proud. Atleast, he is not a jehadi killing innocent people. Of course, such people should be welcome and he should make movies on Antulay/Ahmed/Lalu/Mulayam/Amar/Sonia and their jehadi links how and why 26/11 occured for letting them in our shores inspite of knowing it would happen and then saying sorry.

Fantastic Service of Danny Boyle by A.Kader on 25 Jan 2009

Danny Boyle is fantastic. He depicts the real India through Slumdog millionaire. The description is honest. The picture of the poor India, the children of the slum and the dirt in many places in India is the truth. The reason of the Indian poverty is due to the egoism of the rich Indians, false patriots, the corrupt politicians and the bureaucrats who keep India in this terrible state and they do not care how the poor suffer as the rich ones are anyhow living a good life. They will not pay their workers proper wages as the westerners do.They will not pay taxes either to the government.Under the cruelty of the rich Indians the poor are unable to come up in India. In this tragedy of India we going to celebrate the Republican Day of India!
