Aligarh, February 26: Leading Muslim clerics and scholars have termed the ‘anti-terror fatwa’ issued by influential Islamic seminary Darul Uloom as historic and path breaking and which is likely to have a global impact.

Noted Islamic scholar Saud Alam Qasmi, dean of Theology at the Aligarh Muslim University, says: “We fully endorse the Deoband fatwa against terrorism because there is not a single school of religious thought in Islam which endorses the killings of innocent persons in retaliation of any criminal act.”

Qasmi, who belongs to the Deoband school of thought, also extended full support to the declaration which underscores the fact that “Muslims are being singled out and punished for all acts of terror and organised violence whereas others responsible for similar crimes are not being dealt with according to the law”.

The anti-terrorism conference organised by Darul Uloom in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoband town on Monday was attended by over 10,000 participants that included clerics, scholars and religious leaders from across the country.

“If the approach of double standards in tackling organised violence is not checked at the earliest then it will have dangerous ramifications,” Qasmi said.

Says Maulana Yasin Mazhar Siddiqui, a senior Islamic theologist here: “The fatwa should be welcomed by the entire Islamic world,” adding revenge killing of innocent people is unambiguously prohibited by the Holy Quran.

Calling an end to the ongoing tirade against madarssas and other religious schools in the country, Siddiqui, a former director at AMU’s Institute of Islamic Studies, says, “This flawed approach is damaging all ongoing efforts to confront the growing menace of terrorism in the country."

Darul’s anti-terror fatwa historic: Muslim clerics by Iasius Christos on 29 Feb 2008

Who, according to Qasmi, are considered ‘innocent’ by pristine, unalterable and incontrovertible tenets of Islam? Since disbelief in Islam is considered an act of injustice (see Holy Quran 6:82), all those not converting to the ‘only true faith’ are guilty of willfully stubborn disobedience of Allah and the Prophet (PBUH), making it the pious duty of every Muslim to deal in any manner feasible and practicable (including terror) with such flagrant disbelief. It is clear that even erudite Muslims like Qasmi have either not understood the religious doctrine or are cunningly trying to lull the non-Muslim world into a sense of false immunity.

Islam is terror by Soni A on 29 Feb 2008

Arabs were privy to creation of Jesus and Christianity by the Roman King Constantine. Eusebius was appointed to write up the holy book by King Constantine. 300 years of history of Christianity was made up, Jesus was made as a true copy of the Son of God Osiris-Dionysus who was prevalent at that time. In 325 CE Constantine called the Council of Nicaea to pass the Gospels and Jesus story in which 3 voted against and 217 voted in favour. All evidence were burned to hide the truth, but a later King Julian brought the details to public. Islam was created by Arabs in the same fashion (Koran even says Mohd went to heaven in Jarusalem mosque, but when Mohd died there was no mosque. The mosque was constructed fifty years after Mohd’s death) They put the mantle of Prophet on an orphan who supposed to have lived some 150 years earlier. Laws like Sharia was written to suit the social conditions of that time. But applying that to the modern time is simply not acceptable.

Anti terror fatwa just an eyewash and Quran attracts IPC by krishna.n on 29 Feb 2008

Writ Petition in the Calcutta High Court on 29 March 1985 stating that publication of the Quran attracts Sections 153A and 295A of the I.P.C. Muslims in India have often sought shelter under Sections 153A and 295A of the Indian Penal Code (I.P.C.) for preventing every public discussion of their creed in general and of their prophet in particular.1 Quite a few publications which examine critically the sayings and doings of the Prophet or other idolized personalities of Islam, have been proscribed under Section 95 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.P.C.) as a result of pressure exerted by vociferous, very often violent Muslim protests. Little did they suspect that the same provisions of the law could be invoked for seeking a ban on their holy book, the Quran.

anti-terror fatwa by ahindu on 27 Feb 2008

the muslim parents or friends of these terrorists also must be given FATWA since they cannot escape their responsibility. If this happens then all the parents and relatives will be careful in watching their wards.Surprising all those who are involved in terrorism are muslims. Can you declare fatwa or request the president of india to hang Mr.Afzal involved with supreme court bombings !!!

Scary but true.... by withheld on 27 Feb 2008

Cool down folks. This fatwa is reportedly only against 'terrorism' that means 'the killings of innocent persons in retaliation of any criminal act' and not the terrorism that the world faces today, which is wanton killing of innocent people just because someone in the muslim world felt/perceived something that 'others' did/do as hurtful to their religion. According to hard core islamists, what they indulge in is only to uphold the 'honour' of Islam and that appears to be unchecked by this so called 'fatwa'.
