Kolkata, July 6 Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata after he fell sick twice on Sunday. Initially he felt unwell at Malda where he had gone to attend a meeting and again on his way to Kaliachowk where he was supposed to attend another meeting.

Doctors have declared his condition as stable.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi spoke to his wife, MLA Deepa Dasmunsi and enquired about his health.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee too enquired about him.

The Union minister, who is also the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president, complained of chest pain and breathlessness during a meeting of Malda district Congress committee at the house of late A B A Gani Khan Chaudhury at Kotwali in Malda.

He was brought to Malda circuit house where an ECG and blood test were conducted. A short while later he felt better and left for Kaliachowk where he was supposed to attend another meeting.

On his way, however, Dasmunsi again fell sick and he was admitted to a Raigunj private nursing home. Later he was taken to Purnea in Bihar and from there brought to Kolkata by a BSF helecopter.

State Congress leaders Manas Bhuina and Subrata Mukherjee went to the hospital to visit the Union minister. A group of Congress workers too gathered at the hospital premises. “I don’t think it is anything serious. We hope he will recover soon,” Manas Bhuniya, Congress Legislature Party leader, told The Indian Express.
