No mercy would be shown towards fake Godmen, who thrived with their nexus with sections of business and political class, he said at a press meet referring to the detention of two self-styled Godmen in the past few days.
On the dramatic scenes staged in a police station near Kochi by another self-styled swami on Saturday, Achuthanandan said what had happened in the police station was a slur on image of the police and it would be investigated.
"No doubt, these kind of people would be dealt with sternly and the rackets operated by them suppressed mercilessly. They have become a grave threat to social peace and security."
He said some of them (swamis) might have got established with the help of sections in the police, politicians and business class.
He said some of the evidences threw up by the arrest of these fraudsters were capable of denting the credibility and authority of the police. This would be viewed seriously and firm steps taken against those who were found to have links with the spiritual rackets, the Chief Minister added.
