Mumbai, November 20: Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Thursday said she had declined to act in 'Dostana', the romantic comedy with a gay angle, starring husband Abhishek Bachchan, to avoid the demand for a real life romance on screen.

The former Miss World said she declined Priyanka Chopra's part as audiences would have expected a romantic angle between the real life couple.

"The chemistry was between Abhishek and John Abraham. I did not want people to expect romance between me and Abhishek or get disappointed that I walk off with some other man in the end," Aishwarya said on a query.

"This would have diluted the gay angle of the film," she added.

Aishwarya, who is currently shooting for Mani Ratnam's 'Ravan' with Abhishek and a Tamil film with Rajnikant outside Mumbai, was in the city to attend a promotional event of an international watch company for which she is the brand ambassador.

When quizzed about her future projects, the actress said she had signed Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next film with Hrithik Roshan and is doing a film with Vipul Shah.

Old Aish by suchi on 21 Nov 2008

Its high time Aish moves out of the moviedom; in all probability the movie must not have been offered to her, inspite of her lobbying for it. Most of the heros are unwilling to work with her except her husband(abhishek) who has no choice. On top of that, she is barging into some movies with Amitabh Bachan, and spoiling his name. She is using the Bachan family to suit her gains no end. On top of that she is very disrespectful to other heroines, be their roles or succeses. Infact its a pain to see her old sagging self in the movies.

Time for Aish to move out from Film Industry by Avinash Pillai on 20 Nov 2008

Seeing her comments i sincerely feels that she should find a different job for herself and her hubby. We people should do wipe off these elements completely from film industry in the same way she has rejected the offer now. Defentions of a FILM is " Film is considered to be an important art form, a source of popular entertainment and a powerful method for educating — or indoctrinating — citizens. The visual elements of cinema gives motion pictures a universal power of communication" she still not be knowing this.

Excuse me boss but I don't think you know about films than Ash herself.. See she turned down being a leading lady after thinking about the outcome. She has been around for enough time to understand people's expectations( at least sane ones unlike you). What do films being done now communicate?? Love stories always ask the couples to ignore their parents' opinion. This you think is educating? Films are just mere entertainers and it would be better that people like stop commenting on an actress who can very well take her own decisions. This is why she is the highest paid. She doesn't worry about the number games instead she gives not only her talent but her intelligence as well. Kudos to Ash
