“Perhaps, we have not come out of this ‘illusive superiority’ of male chauvinism. Why a lonely girl is taken as an easy prey, irrespective of her own whims and response,” Additional Sessions Judge Rajender Kumar Shastri said.
The defence counsel, during the trial, had alleged that the victim was crazy for professional achievement. They also claimed that her marriage with another journalist was an attempt to spur her career prospects.
Slamming such attempts, the judge said, “I think, it was the personal choice of the deceased as whom she married. None particularly accused had any right to challenge her personal liberty.”
“Such comments tend to debauch womanhood. Such an eerie plea advanced by the counsel is nothing but a pettifoggery,” the court said.
Shivani was having an affair with many people-- she was known to be in a frustrated marriage with impotent Rakesh who is 15 years her senior.at one time Mr. RK Sharma’s conviction is a political conviction; since the beginning the name of Pramod Mahajan has been linked 6 months before, Mr. RK Sharma’s defense team had put forward before the judge phone records of direct talks between Pramod Mahajan and Shivani Bhatnagar. This was vital evidence—the Judge refused even to admit this!
It is a pity that, perhaps it is only in India where people flout freely, the right of freedom of speech and expression as shrined in our constitution. By casting aspersion on the Hon,ble judge of Delhi court where the disgraced suspended senior IPS office RK Sharma, prime accused in Shivani Bhatnagar murder case is being dealt with, vested interests with the intention defending the accused RK Sharma, are playing diversionary tactics. By maligning the deceased shivani Bhtnagar by character assissination, they are lowering the digniy and honour of all human beings. But since no one is above the law, justice will prevail based on prosecution evidence already proved against the accused suspended IPS officer R.K. Sharma.
James - you arw accusing the judge of having alreayd made up his mind ? Ain't you doing he same ? Atleast the judge saw the evidence and heard both parties. But you made up your mind against the woman while sitting pretty in your arm chair ? Why must an indian woman be the epitome of values for the indian man to give her any respect as a person ? Women are also human beings. They have the same mora frailties that men suffer from. They also may make wrong choices in life. But does that give someone a right to end her life ? Especially a Polcie officer ? I can't pretend to understand how your moral compass works but i know it is not pointing in the right direction.
All this delay and judge has not allowed any other evidence, the judge is already convinced.Whatever be the judgment, lessons should be learnt. Either go the Dharmendra way, have second wife OR go Amitabh B way, dump Rekha, deny affair with Parveen Babi, etc.But Mr. RK Sharma had problem, she was going with many men and yet she did not want to end relationship with RK Sharma. Seems like She want him to go out the Spitzer (Governor of NY) way.So all the men(Mahajan, Rakesh Bhanagar, etc) in the loop wanted her out and took an action to end her(S Bhatnagar's) misery. Let the judge be the better judge of it, he knows about good and bad!!!
