New Delhi, November 23: Two men were crushed under a Blueline bus after they fell off its footboard in Karol Bagh area of Central district on Sunday. According to the police, the incident occurred around 10.40 am on Daulat Ram Ahuja Marg in front of Laxmi Hotel on Sunday. The victims Bapun Swarnkar, 20 and Prakash, 22 were on their way to ISBT and had boarded the bus at Gaffar Market.

Senior police officers said they were hanging from the footboard of the bus plying on route number 721 (Mongalpuri to ISBT). They were crushed as the bus grazed past a Bisleri tempo parked on the road.

"The Blueline bus was speeding as the driver was trying to overtake another bus which was coming from behind. The victims didn't notice the parked-wrongly tempo and were crushed between the two vehicles," said the senior police officer.

Both died on the spot and their bodies are at the Maulana Azad Medical College mortuary. The postmortem will be conducted tomorrow.

The men, natives of Bihar, worked in a jeans factory at Gaffar Market and were going to ISBT to pick up a relative. They lived in Todapur village in Inderpuri. Their families in Bihar have been informed of the incident.

The drivers of the Blueline bus and the tempo have fled after the accident. Both vehicles have been impounded. A case has also been registered at the Karol Bagh police station in this regard and further investigations are on.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, (Central district), Jaspal Singh said, "We have lodged a case under Section 304-A and are investigating the matter. We have the registration number of the vehicles and will trace the absconding drivers soon."
