"The blueline buses are the major killers as far as Delhi is concerned. These killer blueline buses have played havoc on Delhi roads and every year precious lives get sacrificed by these buses," Justice Kailash Gambhir, in a recent verdict, said.
"These buses have unleashed a kind of death drive putting in danger the lives of Delhiites on the roads of the capital," he said, deciding a petition filed by the parents of a man killed in a road accident in 1999, seeking enhancement of compensation awarded to them after the death of their 21-year-old son.
The Bench, which also pulled up the insurance companies for creating "bottlenecks" in award of compensation, cited Delhi Police's data on fatal accidents in support of its assertions.
"As per the recent data released by Delhi Police, a total of 8,270 accidents had occurred in the capital in the year 2006, in which 2,050 people were killed," the Bench said.
The court, which enhanced the amount as demanded, said no compensation could fill the void created by the loss of a person.
"Death of any person in a family torments and shatters the entire family, more particularly, when it is the death of a sole bread earner," it said, adding no compensation could bring solace to the victim's family.

How many persons have been "killed" by Blueline, say in the last year? I vaguely remember it as about 110. How many have met their death or suffered severe physical damage by drinking POLLUTED water supplied by DJB? I think it must run into thousands: because, my family doctor told me, last October (when my entire family came down with typhoid as a result of water polluted with SEWAGE), that scores of patients were coming to him with typhoid or "gastroenteritis". I am sure many more would have contracted hepatitis, amoebiasis, worm infestations, and other water-borne diseases. In other words, DJB is a much bigger killer than all the motor vehicles put together.
The roles are reversed,it not the courts to decide whether Blue Line buses are "Killer". The decision maker is Delhi Government otherwise these buses would not have been on the Delhi roads with license to Kill. Perhaps courts have not learnt their lessons from the decisions on unathorised colonies and unauthorized structures. In India Politicians call the tune.
Dear Sir, The Hon'ble court has rightly said that no compensation can equal or give solace to the family of a victim. Despite being such a rouge service (Blue line bus service), because being the private competitive business, the poor workers (Drivers and conductors) at the grass root level make it miserable. This ghastly service could be removed. This sector instead of giving service makes lives miserable. Even the commuters have no alternative otherwise the misbehaviour metted to them makes them to think twice before boarding these buses. But alas! there is no alternative. Can any MAHATAMA come to the rescue of the masses.s.l.kaul
