New Delhi To discuss the recommendations of the 6th Pay Review Committee, the Delhi University Teacher’s Association held a General Body meeting on Monday. The recommendations implemented by the University of Delhi have been under constant criticism by staff councils of various colleges. DUTA member Rajib Ray said all participants agreed that some clauses in the report suffered from aberrations. “There are problems like the fact that same qualification can lead to different pay scales,” he said. The teachers said the report denies third promotion in colleges in the form of professorship/ professor’s grade as demanded for the last 20 years.

There is also discontentment among teachers over the two-tier annual increment in pay band (15,600-39,100), which is suspected to lead to nepotism and favouritism. The other issue discussed was regularisation of the revised pay scales. Many colleges have already started giving revised salaries to the staff — Hansraj College, Maharaja Agrasen College, Kirori Mal College and Ramjas College, among others. Colleges like Hindu and St Stephen’s have not revised the pay scale yet. Ever since the implementation of Pay Review Committee report, it has been criticised for a number of anomalies with regard to pay scales of assistant professor (senior scale) and assistant professor (selection grade)/ associate professor.
